System repair disc could not be created

When trying to create a system repair disk on my cd/dvd drive, I receive the following message:

System repair disc could not be created

The drive reported that it is in the process of becoming ready. Please try the request again later.
(0xC0AA0205).

I get this on two computers. One is a 2 year old HP Pavilion, the other is a 1 year Sony Vaio.

I put clean CD's into each drive prior to attempting to create the repair disc.

Anyone see this one yet? I could not find the error number in any forum yet.

And of course, if anyone has an idea, please, lay it on me.

TIA, Tom

Welcome to Seven Forums, tavogardo.

It sounds like you are not allowing enough time between putting in the CD and trying to create the disk. I'd try putting the CD in the drive, and wait until Windows sees it - this may take a little time. It should come up with a box asking what you want to do. Close that box and then try making the recovery CD.

I had the same problem, I went through about 5 DVD-Rs until I switched to a CD-R and it worked like a charm. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips guys. What I did was toss the cd and try it with a standard dvd and voila, it created the disc with no problems.

Again, appreciate the input and the help. Tom

I have been trying unsuccessfully to create a system repair disk. I have tried every type of CD/DVD that I own and all come out with the same result "System repair disk could not be created. the parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) OK".
I downoaded a supposed fix "230433_intl_i386_zipexe". This wouldn't run under my profile. I logged on as administrator and tried to execute; no dice it said insufficient storage; which certainly isn't the case. I thought maybe just maybe Microsoft had a winner; starting to have my doubts.

I also have the same error code (0x80070057) and no chance to create a repair disk on my HP Compaq 8510w (Windows 7, X64, Ultimate Edition).

By the way what kind f file is it? ( "230433_intl_i386_zipexe") Where did you read about it?

I can't remember and I did a short search. However I came across a Microsoft create recovery cd; downloaded that and made my Recovery CD. I can't find that either. I'll look later when I have more time and get back to you.

One can also use the W7 installation disk as a "repair disk," assuming that one in fact has an installation disk. The system repair disk is ideal for those who have machines that did not come with a true Windows 7 installation disk.

I think it is almost criminal that many laptop manufacturers don't supply a real Windows installation disk with the machines they sell. I guess MS offered the ability to create a system repair disk as a partial remedy for this problem. But many people want to be able to easily do a clean install and this is difficult if one doesn't have a real W7 installation disk.

I agree with you and it really annoys me when I buy a laptop that comes with all this garbage that you didn't ask for. I bought this one with a nice 500GB HD with thoughts of re-partitioning and installing linux as well; no can do because of Windows dynamic disks. If i had the Win7 install I could format; change disks to basic; partition and install Windows. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Starting with Vista, manufacturers started making much or all of their profit margin on sponsor's bloatware, so gradually they have started enforcing it. Gateway and Dell stopped always providing a clean copy OS DVD + drivers/apps CD, forcing users to buy/make Recovery disks which will only install with bloatware. Some tech support won't even support clean reinstalls and require factory condition restore to service hardware warranty.

The solution to this is to find a clean copy of the 7600 RTM and unlock all versions http://www.windowsvalley.com/blog/unlock-all-editions-from-windows-7-iso-image-x86-and-x64/

By leaving the key blank during install and unchecking box it will auto-activate afterwards using the key embedded in the mobo whose batch key is stickered on your computer. If a robocall to MS is required it will sort out the specific key (available by running Belarc Advisor) from the batch key and activate every time. You own that version license for that computer, period.

Now you need to find the apps you still want from the manufacturer's Support download page for your model. The Win7 installer is already driver-complete for the most part, followed up by WIndows Updates. Then get Adobe Reader/flash and Java runtime and maybe free Ofc. from their websites.

Thanks for replying; sounds exactly what I and many others need. Maybe I'm pulling a huge duhhh, but I haven't been able to locate the Windows 7 RTM.iso. Can you point me in the right direction? I've searched Technet & MSDN.

You will need to borrow and copy it, which is not illegal since you own a license you intend to use it for.

This is why MS does not copy-protect them. The DVD or ISO is only an installer and not connected to the purchased key.

It is available on the internet but on sites that are dangerous to download from and not recommended.
That's what I figured; thanks again. I guess I could buy an upgrade to my old XP system and use that.

dual-booting win7 and linux

hey AllanP you can have dual-boot with linux. you can go into start/manage and select diskmanagement and shrink the win7 volume to say 50 gbs for linux. just use ths calaculator to figure out the disk space in MBs. ive done it and it caused no problems. good luck!

Yes I've done that, but Linux won't recognize the partition I created because of Windows dynamic disk versus basic. That has been my whole problem; wanting to keep Win7 and load Linux; no can do. I need to delete partitions; re-partition and install Windows then Linux.
