I'm trying to change the default for Windows Contacts to Outlook but can't figure out how. When opening Windows Fax and Scan, I want to be able to select recipients from my Outlook 2003 Contacts.

When I go to Control Panel/Default Programs/Set Default Programs, Windows Contacts is selected and grayed out, so I can't un-select it.

Running 64-bit Windows 7. Any ideas??

Run Windows Fax and Scan as an adminstrator...

Shift-Click WFS->Run as an Administrator

Can't find correct submenu

Already tries WFS as Administrator, going into all the submenus. Can't see Outlook Contacts anyplace - just Windows Contacts. I am running 64-bit W7, not the 32-bit version. If the 64-bit version allows use of Outlook Address Book contacts, please let me know which submenu to use once in WFS since I can't find it. Thank you.

I have the same problem with Windows 7 (64 bit) Fax & Scan - you can not get to Outlook Contacts as one did in Vista Ultimate. I don't want two sets of Contacts.

I've seen several machines within the past two days experiencing this issue.

I can tell you that the problem seems to exist using the following:

1) 64-bit Windows Vista Business/Enterprise/Ultimate or 64-bit Windows 7 Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate
2) Outlook 2007 (regardless of Service Pack or hotfixes)

I used a 32-bit Windows 7 Enterprise virtual machine, set up my company Outlook profile, Windows Fax and Scan, and it was able to pull my Outlook Contacts by default.

In every 64-bit environment, no dice.

I did a comparison between two Windows 7 "Default Programs" list in the control panel (one x86, the other x64). All Default Programs and protocols for Microsoft Outlook and Windows Contacts are identical!

One would think that this would have nothing to do with Default Programs at this point, and I tend to be "one" here. I think it's just simply Windows Fax & Scan x64 being unable to communicate with Outlook 2007 x86.

...but let's take this experiment a bit further, shall we?

With the Office 2010 Beta being available in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors, I decided to install the 64-bit version on Windows 7 x64. Pull up company Outlook profile, fire up Windows Fax & Scan...no love.

So apparently, either the 2010 Beta has problems talking to WF&S or WF&S x64 just has problems with Outlook altogether...

Full version of Office 2010 and still the same problem. Trying to get Windows 7 x64 and Office 2010 x64 with fax to use contacts from Outlook and not the default contacts from Windows 7 directory.

Running the Fax as Administrator does not give any extra options that changes the direction of the "Select Recipients" from the "address book"

Help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is some serious thread necromancy, but for the few people out there that use Windows Fax & Scan and would like to use Outlook contacts with 64-bit Windows, you CAN now with Windows 8!

64-bit Windows 8 along with either 64-bit Outlook 2010 or 2013 will allow you to use Outlook Contacts. At first I thought this was something fixed with Outlook 2013, but really, it's a Windows 8 fix, as Windows 7 x64 + Outlook 2013 x64 = still no Outlook Contacts in WFS...
