goyta, that was very well said. According to what you say, might I be the first person you see to say that I have used ME almost flawlessly for 5 years? Was pretty stable but did have some bugs. Then I used XP, which was unstable for me all along and over a little more than a year ago I moved on Vista, which runs very stable and flawlessly on my desktop, and is almost as fast as 7 that's on my laptop with the same amount of RAM. Right now I'm having a very good experience with Vista and Windows 7.

I might not have had the typical user experience, but just goes to prove the point that it can't work the same way for every configuration out there, and for the unlucky ones, there will be some changes that are going to be made to the OS, that's inevitable as it is still pretty new and has rough edges, but having issues is what you get with any software that gets out, and not only on Windows.

Actually it doesn't, I can run all my favorite games in Linux I guess, I've just been out of the loop cause I work a lot. Though atm I have an unstable bios mod on my 8800GT and don't want to boot into linux.... So until I can get either a working boot disc, some boot cd, or a flash drive I'm out of luck. So really, no the best product for me is Linux. I know how to use it better than windows, and it always runs smoother.... I hate how windows has so many problems that can go wrong, my linux just works or it doesn't. =P

Most games don't run under WINE in linux...WINE itself is pretty much a joke (as it is right now...hopefully it will really improve)

You have to wonder why the "Alternative OS" guys devote so much time here posting 'bout how much they dislike Windows and MS... You would think that as thrilled as they are with Linux or any abortion of such that they currently embrace; they would have better things to do then hang-out here griping rather than being productive or just enjoying their OS choice.

It’s kind of like; I’m a HUGE Ford fan but I think I’ll waste my time looking for a place to slam GM!

Reality is that Windows 7 is the most advanced and tested OS ever released! This isn’t MS Fanboy speak, it’s fact. The public beta program provided software compatibility testing, user friendliness, allowed anyone to offer suggestions and then recommend what was personally important to them. As a result we got an outstanding final product that even the Apple/MAC folks have to appreciate.

So let the thread carry-on as I’m certain it will, and let the naysayers complain without providing a better/real alternative knowing that if you’re having a legitimate issue with Win7, you’ll find the solution here.

Regards-

Ken

Meh lol doesn't bother me, I just don't like it when people don't read my quotes right, my favorite games work. lol I don't care about anything else but MW2 and CS:S haha And also I don't hate Windows 7, or Windows at all, just MS. It's a difference to hate the company and not the product.

[edit] This isn't a site about MS as a company, it's about Windows 7.... Or last I checked it was SevenForums? Not MS Forums?

I have yet to find something that Win7 will do that XP can't. The number of things I can't do on Win7 is too long to enumerate here.

For me Win7 shows 3 major issues;

1) windows explorer's left/right nav panes are no longer connected to each other making file copying, between them, a lot more cumbersome.

2) The floppy drive does not work with the native sfloppy.sys - I can not format any floppy/corrupting working floppies. The internet is full with similar complaints and MS still has not released a working driver.

3) Win7 forcing native monitor resolution or windowed display mode - fortunately this has been fixed by now.

I know I can use the XP sfloppy.sys but things do not improve much - one in five formats are successful but at least it reads floppies fine! It's embarrassing why there is no fully working driver yet.

I can not say is it all win7 or an AMD issue - I somehow have the distinct feeling AMD users in general do have a lot more Win7 problems than Intel users. Some people even say it's kinda concerted assault on AMD by MS

sorry for the lengthy post:zip:

Except for those that don't have the inexplicable, unresolved, and unrelenting inherent graphics display resolution/pixelation issues with the native photo viewer. So, that doesn't leave a lot for those of us that can't get any solution to why viewing pictures in Win7 look grainy and pixelated when zoomed at all and the same ones in XP are smoothed without jagged edges.

I could go on.

There are plenty of free alternatives to the crappy photo viewer MS ships.

Absolutely right. i use FastStone Image Viewer ( FastStone Image Viewer - Powerful and Intuitive Photo Viewer, Editor and Batch Converter ) and never noticed that the MS photo viewer is crappy - because I never needed to use it.

There are. However, the fact remains that Windows 7 natively has crappy image resolution in only particular scenarios. Downloading and using another product does not fix that. No matter how "crappy" or whatever term we want to call it (I'm not even sure how something can be crappy that simply displays an image), the "crappy" native image viewer in XP displays them just fine. So, it has nothing to do with the quality of the image viewer and more to do with something inherently wrong in the display function(s) of the OS that are producing this degraded effect in Win7.

Since we are discussing things inherently wrong in Win7, this would directly satisfy that in the fact that there is no fix and the only suggestions are ones that point to 3rd party apps to mitigate something that shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Like buying a new luxury car .. Then sneaking down to the auto parts store for the after market kits to install Power Windows and Cruise Control ..
and you still have a car that can only turn right .. With 3 left turns.

Just for grunts, I'm going to download it and try it out. To be honest, I don't think it's going to fix anything as I think the problem is at a lower level than the application layer.
