No prob.

IMO, the HD 5850 & 5870 will have trouble keeping up with these new nVidia cards.

But then again, AMD will probably have an answer for 'em in the HD 5890.

Nice. At what settings are they? Highest/Very High etc?

ALL MAXED OUT on the quality settings..... :)

unfortunately though the game only detects 998mb of VRAM rather than the 2048mb that's on the card, its gotta be crossfire related, but if i could access that my draw distance & the others (cant remember what they are now) would be @ 100%

All I can say is w00t :p

Unfortunately is does answer the one niggling question about the 2GB of Vram on that card actually being usable.

I suspected it wouldn't be :(

that's is bloody stupid, so that other GB of RAM just sits there, doing nothing....... :sarc:

Guy's & gal's referencing my current specs and the score you see below, am I being seriously bottle-necked by my MOBO & CPU? I expected better. I have a 5870.

there is a CPU bottleneck here, in order to fully open these cards we need PCIE 2.0 (which you have) & a 1366 or 1156 platform.

my Quad @ 3.6ghz is a serious bottleneck & i think my chip is slightly better than yours clock for clock...:( (no Ego involved)

so does this card beats 295 in performance

i saw this one beats 295 in cpubenchmarking site!!!

EDIT: just watched my post count of 777 :)

the HD5970 outperforms the GTX295 in ALL benchmarks ;)

check this guy out, running Quad CFX (2x 5970s)

im sure this beat or come close to the previous world record, & this is on AIR!!:eek:

That's just how dual/multi cards work. Each 1GB of vram per 'card' is being shared between the two. 'Technically' it's doing something. But it doesn't add up to a 2GB usable :(

It looks like the 2GB is just a marketing gimmick.

Yeah :(

I should have known by looking at the specs, but I lived in hope of some 'magic'. If it were truly 2Gb usable, that would have meant each 'card' has 2GB alone.

Then they would have marketed it as 4GB

lol...... & then the B/S just starts to spiral :D

it cant be that hard to implement, surly..??, or maybe it is being fully utilized but the apps weren't designed to show RAM split up on a single PCB.

i do hope the latter is the case..

It's the same with any dual card setup in SLI/Crossfire. Look at GPU-Z when you're running the game, and both sets of memory should be being used, but it's only the same things being added afaik, so say you're staring at a wall in game, the wall texture will be loaded in to both sets of memory, I think... but like what SE said, for single PCB cards, it is more or less a marketing gimmick.

ok.... so its time for an update on the never ending ATI saga.....:sarc:, since my last post in this thread my gaming experience has dropped no end.

somehow the driver corrupts itself with continued use, one minute its fine & all is well & then something happens (ive yet to pin down a cause, which tells me its simply driver corruption), i mean i can run ''furmark'' @ 1920x1080 8xAA with a clean crisp 200fps AVG..... there is no stuttering in this bench which tells me the H/W is fine

but out of the blue my desktop colours go back to default settings & i get TERRIBLE ''microstutter'' while gaming, i know this is a driver issue as it was not present with the 9.11 drivers, & the FPS are not affected..

benchmarks still run VERY well, i actually gained 2k in vantage with the 9.12 but gained the stutter.

its certainly related to the on-board crossfire b/c when i disable AI in CCC (in affect disabling one core), the stuttering goes...

i would just roll back to the 9.11s but these drivers had the downclock issue, which 9.12 fixed.

so im left with a choice.......

run the 9.12 drivers & disable 1 core, or run both & put up with the stutter

or

run the 9.11 driver, games perfectly but i get artifacts all over the screens while in 2D mode.

i have tickets open with ''sapphire'' & ''AMD'' in the hope of getting some quick fixes formulated.

i would like to add, even though im at wits end with AMD's driver support :(, the card itself is still amazing & on the previous drivers you could really see this card performing, ppl are sending these cards back left, right & center.... but these issues will get ironed out, just like the 4 series finally did. :p

these issues are not just 5970 ones either, they stretch across the whole 5 series range, driver bugs GALORE!!

my advice to anyone looking to upgrade their GPU's would be to hold off 3 or 4 months, drivers will mature on the 5 series cards & you'll have a much better experience off the bat

or

go Nvidia & ASSURE yourself 100% compatibility & EXCELLENT driver support. ;)

I gotta say, my 5870 along with 9.12 drivers is working like a charm right now on my setup. No issues whatsoever. I too gained huge numbers in vantage after upping from 9.11 to 9.12. I think it's time now to consider making the switch from Phenom over to i7 as I fear that my mobo/cpu might be keeping this video card back. I'm not sure how much I'll gain though as I felt I was doing well with my Phenom II x4 OC and my current mobo. But all in all my experience is good, card performs like stink.

Wow! Seems to me that ATI still has issues with crossfire, whether it be dual cards or a single x2 card. This is the main reason I’ve never went crossfire or stayed away from the x2 cards. It’s just too much money to be putting up with spotty performance. Yeah I know the 5970 doesn't have x2 in the title but it's still a dual card on a single PCB board.

It also seems to me that the entire 5000 series has been problematic as a whole. ATI had better get this sorted out or else.

I've been a long time ATI customer, (since 3DFX was bought out), but I don't see myself getting into crossfire thing until ATI irons out their performance issues with the setup.

Also, seeing the overall issues with the 5000 series, I may wind up holding onto my 4890 until the next generation comes out. I skipped 2000 series for this reason as well.

Good luck and hopefully ATI gets the driver issue(s) fixed for these cards soon.
