Hello guys,

I'm after a bit of advice really, my old laptop has seen better days and I feel it is about time I invest in a new one...

I don't want anything too crazy, just something I can take with me on my IT jobs...

I've narrowed it down to these two...

AMD - Asus X5 Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer

and

Intel - Asus X5DIJ Laptop - Laptops at Ebuyer

The main differences from what I can see is... The Intel has the extra gig of RAM but the AMD has the better graphics chip...

I do not know how the CPU's compare...

I would be ever so grateful for some good advice

Thanks

I would go with the Intel and the RAM. If that is your pic, you are a lot younger than me, and probably play a lot of games, if that is the case you would want good graphics. If you plan on getting a 64 bit, you want the memory. It is a very personal choice. Decide what is important to you and then choose accordingly.

I would go for the AMD... At least with that you have the option to do some gaming, or at least fullscreen video watching without any problems... the GMA will give you nothing but trouble.

Yeah, I mean I run 7 Ultimate on my desktop with 2gb of RAM, a Phenom 8750 Triple and a HD4870 with no problems.... I say no problems like it would struggle, it eats it up and any games I've ever tried...

Maybe I should go for the AMD then, maybe spend the extra on a carry case....

Edit: And also I can always up the RAM in the future... So really its just the CPU that is of any concern to me..

Edit Again: The AMD seems to rank better also...

I'd go with the AMD then upgrade the RAM in the future if you really want.

Yeah I've gone with the AMD...

Can get a carry case, USB HDD and more as well for the same price as the Intel...

The thing that I noticed about both of them is that they have W7 Home Preimium installed, and I think that W7 Pro would be a better choice, because of better abilities in how it can join a network. The AMD said that it included a voucher in the box, but didn't give any details that I saw. I wonder if that would permit upgrading to Pro?

I think its Vista Premium to 7 Premium...
I've ordered it, and fortunately where I live its free of charge, I'd heard stories about a lot of the companies offering the free upgrade and then charging £18.99 to ship it... Which is a joke to be honest...

Anyway it came within 16 hours of me ordering, had a play with it and its good..
Perfect for what I need it for, plus if I want to play the odd game I can... But I think I'll leave that to my desktop or the Xbox360...

A steal at £360, it really is... Built very well, not packed full of crapware like some of the others... (Dell)... All I really had to uninstall was Norton, which I replaced with the free version of AVG...

Carry case for a tenner is fantastic, as is the Sandisk 8gb USB Key...

Chuffed to bits with this purchase...

Thank you all for you help!
