Where are startup-folders in Win-7?

On Win-XP, one could browse into both per-user and system-wide
'startup' folders, where the shortcuts lived that pointed to apps
that get auto-started when you login.

So, how do I do that on Win-7 (Home Premium/64-bit)?

i.e. where do they hide this now? :huh:

Welcome!

On Seven, there is a folder in the Stat Menu called Startup. You can also go into msconfig and look in the startup tab.

There is a folder called "Startup"

Write Shell:startup

Ok, that was very helpful!

I got the files,folders,drive unhidden.
And, I got the 'per-user' startup folder defined as a desktop-shortcut.
[By default, that startup-folder says it's empty.]

But, the spec you gave for system-wide won't parse/navigate...fails because
there's no 'Users\All Users' (so the rest matters not)

There are 5 choices under Users, namely Administrator,Guest, Public, and the 2 user acct-names.

So, I'm still stuck, as to location for the system-wide startup.

Which is no doubt where the little devil that I'm trying to shutoff lives...
namely, the 'Windows Live Messenger'. Don't really need/want that.

More ideas?

Just for your peace-of-mind, to configure startup processes, go into the Startup tab in msconfig.

the system, did the trick.

As to the path to the system-wide startup, that just does NOT exist on my system.
I check in both the file-explorer and in a cmd-window (Dos-box), and
there is no sub-dir under 'Users' called 'All Users'.

But, since I got the Live Messenger thing resolved, I can live for now, without
finding that other startup folder.

So, feel free to mark this thread solved.

Dwarf sorry, but as far as I know Windows 7 doesn't have All users folder.
I think it's now controlled by registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\RUN

That should be C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Users\All Users is a junction which seems you have messed with the permissions of it....not good.

As far as i can see there is no need to show hidden folders.

When in need to add programms to the startup folder (even if you cannot see the All users folder) :

Start
All programms
Scroll down and find the map Startup at the bottem of the list.
Rightclick on the map
Select: Show all users

(translation can be a bit messy since i use a Dutch version, but i should be very close)
