If you are not running in the hidden Administrator account, then you need to Run As Administrator.

Type CMD in search box, right click result, click Run as Administrator.

You definitely need to run an elevated command to use bcdedit.

Rt click cmd and run as admin.

Another thing popped up. I save files, screen shots in an external drive. I saved previous screen shots in it. I tried saving something else and it came up with access denied? yet it let me save it in a previous screen shot file, but not a new one.
Anyway lets get dual boot sorted. I want to use 7 but wife needs XP

Run the CMD as adminstrator, try SIW2's commands again.

Copy and paste so there is no doubt.

Did it all ok. restart and it came up XP or 7..YES...clicked XP..then this

Can you boot into Win7, post back a screenshot of Disk Management and EasyBCD listings. Use Snipping tool in Start Menu, attach files with paper clip in reply box.

We can then advise you if a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R will correctly reconfigure the dual boot menu as it should, or if perhaps a simple change using EasyBCD will do the job.

WOW SLOWLY. Yes I can boot into 7 but not XP. Ill post back a screen shot of disk man and take it from there..getting late. Back at work tomoz

Easybcd 2.0 will replace it for you.

Remove the existing XP entry.

Add a new entry for XP - and let Easy 2.0 autoconfigure it for you.

Dont mind screwing up 7, but not XP.its all email and stuff on. Thats why i wanted dual boot dual drive.

If it is working, what the heck.

But your Win 7 entry is missing several lines.

Doing a startup repair may replace them. Just make sure you make note of the XP part that works.

You could use Easybcd to add the XP bcd entry - instead of the commands listed above. Easybcd is a GUI for bcdedit and will run exactly the same commands for you.

Not necessary, though. The commands take 5 seconds to do.

I am on the Neosmart Forums and have been testing the beta versions of the forthcoming Easybcd version - it will offer a lot more functions.

Arc , you are just confusing the issue by suggesting alternatives.
