Baseball Bat - Meet Computer !

Grrrrrrrr...

I am fed up with this stupid thing!

I need to copy a file to a usb drive. I AM The Administrator. DEP is Off. I have no software running that could stop this transfer like spybot tea timer, or an anti-virus.firewall. UAC is Disabled.

My Win 7 tells Me... ME I don't have permission to access the file! The very Nerve of this thing!

I am GOD on my PC and I don't want Windows interfering in MY business! Apparently this uppity Win 7 seeks to challenge it's master. Well it's time to stop that behavior and show it who's the boss.

Any ideas?

This is strange, because I was able to copy the folder the file is in, from the Downloads folder to my Desktop.. but now suddenly I don't have permission to access the file?

EDIT:
~~~~~~~~~~
Mod, I see you moved this thread from the security section.. ( I thought it belonged there since it is a security issue) But.. you renamed the title.. it was called " Baseball Bat - Meet Computer !" Why did you rename my thread? Change it back. I named the thread that title for a reason. I want my title back!
Edit, I am trying to change my title back from the Advanced Editor.. I still wish to know why you would do such a thing.
Edit: It only created a sub title. Please change my main title back.
~~~~~~~~~~

I also notice that under Properties, and the Security tab, I cannot change the permissions. I should be able to as I AM the administrator.

ok, now back to the business:
  1. Follow the tutorial:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html
  2. create take ownership shortcut.
  3. Take ownership of that file.
  4. Right click go to properties and now change permissions to Full control for your accoount.
Easy? ;)

Well, at least someone thought it was funny...

I tried that.. it does not work.. I tried that from the hidden Administrator account.. it still says Access Denied.

I was able to solve the problem by using another hard drive with XP on it. Thank God for XP the Best system MS ever made.

Still this means win 7 is buggy and needs fixing.

I also notice the Mod never answered my charges against him. He's hiding. Coward.

I don't think it's bug, it's security feature added to Windows 7 to protect system files being modified, which will save PC's ass from malware attack and user stupidity equally ...

Anyway, which files you were trying to modify?
I may help you why they were protected...

Forum has more then 60.000 users, 500.000 post.
How do you expect mods to monitor all of them?

Title was changed to make it releavent to the thread.
In my opinion thread called " Baseball Bat - Meet Computer !" will not give anybody any information about thread and users will either will not even open it or will just open it and waste their time as it's not what they thought or know...
So keep it relevant to the topic :sarc:

If you can find out why this file is protected go for it.
If this file behaves the same way on your system, i'd like to know.. if not.. I wanna know why.. go here ECS Web Site

You will be downloading the Bios software for my motherboard.. I cannot even execute the file AFUWIN.exe Can you? I just tried it for the first time with my anti virus turned on.. it thinks its a virus.. of course that's a false reading. But all day yesterday when I was messing with this file trying to get it to open I did not have my anti virus software running.

The title "Baseball Bat - Meet Computer !" is not designed to give people a preview of the problem. It is designed to attract people to want to read the thread. As far as I know, this is not against the forum rules.

BTW Folks.. New Orleans Saints - Greatest NFL team on Earth- Kicked the Colts Butt!

1. Which version of BIOS are you reffering? (08/07/07 or 08/04/07)

2. What AV are you using?
As far as I can see, there is only one AV product which thinks both of those files suspicious, and I don't think you use Comodo as your AV :sarc:

My Bios is 08/04/07 and I DO use Comodo AV. Comodo thinks it's a virus.. but that should not matter as i was not running the Comodo program when trying to run the file.

Keep in mind, I already was able to run the tool to update my Bios using XP.. I just want to know why win 7 won't run it.. I may have this problem with other files in the future and want to know how to fix it.

Oh.. I gave up on the UBS version , that's why I tried to use the windows version the aufwin.exe file.. whatever was stopping me from copying the files to a usb must be the same thing stopping this file from running.

I would run this program: http://www.creativelement.com/

Configure it to allow you to "Take ownership of file" upon right-click. I'm not sure if it's the same as the method used in the tutorial, but I've used this many times without problems.

Windows 7 is designed for the average home user in mind. Unfortunately, people that expect to have root as the administrator, will be disappointed.

- You're not the only one who feels like this! You just gotta deal with it and figure out a couple workarounds.

O.k. I have tried this software. I now have 2 " Take Ownership " links in my right context menu. Now I can access the file where the above tutorial Take Ownership did not work.. The program must configure the take ownership thing differently.

I can access the permissions too now.

The program crashes saying it cannot load the driver.. but at least it attempts to open now.

Hey, that software has a lot of neat fuatures.. Thanks.

ok, I downloaded it and I can freely open it. I have permissions by default.

Yeah, it closes saying "Error: Loading Driver"
It's is normal for me as I don't use that Motherboard.
But the face that it's crushing on you aswell, probably means there is some problems with that file...

- No idea about the crashing.. maybe it's because you already modified the right-click menu to use the other take ownership button? It's running for me on Win 7 x64 -maybe it's worth it to send a message to the developer of the program?

Good luck with your Windows 7 adjustments :rolleyes:

I do not think the its crashing because of the bios version.. the software starts up and you have to choose some options before installing the bios update.. Whether you choose to update the bios or not, the app's gui should still run I would think..

But perhaps I am wrong and you are right.. since I already updated my bios might this cause the apps drivers not to load? Hmm I dunno.. what if I needed to re flash the Bios again because I want to reset everything to defaults... it seems the tool should run again.

Then again.. I never saw it run in win 7.. only XP.

It's 64 bit

You may be thinking that the app is not compatible with 64 bit.. this may be true but It seems to me if the board is 64 bit compatible, their app should work..Thats what I would think anyway.. Dunno.

I have tried running it in compatibility mode for xp and a number of others.
