ummmmm the 9800 gt is the better of the two but neither are good for gaming..... at least not newer games, if you want a good gaming card your gonna have to spend at least $100

Of course a 9800gt is still good for gaming, it will play all games. You make it sound like they will not run any newer games which is totally not true at all.

I've only just recently switched from a 9600gt and that was able to play ALL games at good 1920x1080 with max settings(except gta iv and crysis) and with the 9800 being slighty better than 9600 then performance will be good.

Answering the op question the 9800 is far better than the 220 and you will be able to play all games at a decent rate.

LOL, stormy, Diffirent site's, diffirent reviews. And Nvidia cant lie on the basic specs like GPU core speed and RAM speed. Theese things are higher in the 220. And why would they unmarket their own product?

It may have higher speeds, but it is still a lot slower than the 9800. You don't get mid-high end performance from a low end card.

Since you're still sticking with DX10, why don't you go for the 4770. It's cheap...well it's very cheap when on sale where I live...otherwise the 4770's pricing is pretty much the same as the 9800GT or $10 more thereabouts.

Or consider the 5750 or just wait for Nvidia to release their Fermi cards

ok... if you look on tom's hardware at the graphics charts (as i did before i ever said anything) the 220 is much slower than the 9800, specs are not everything.....

All games will play well, Ive only just got rid of a 9600gt not two weeks ago and unless there are any games that have upped the tempo in that time then I can confirm it was able to play most games - mainly high settings with 1920-1080p @35+fps. Now when you consider 9800gt is slightly better then.............

And coolness the 9800 is a better performing card than the 220, I'd already checked it out against it before passing comment.

Please don't type in all capital letters, or in such a large font size. It's annoying, hard to read, and to put it as nicely as possible, it makes you look like a moron. Capital letters belong on proper nouns and at the beginning of the first word in a sentence. When you type in all large-sized red font that's all caps, it makes me (and many other people) not want to help you.


That being said, the 9800GT is the better card out of the two. If you want to compare an Nvidia graphics card to another Nvidia graphics card, then usually whichever one has more "Stream Processors" is usually the more powerful one. Stream Processors are also called "Shader Units" or "Processing Cores".

Look at the charts at TomsHardware in order to make a good comparison of how graphics cards perform. You'll notice that the 9800GT scores 299.6 on that chart, yet the GT220 only scores 145.9 - less than half. This makes sense, because the GT220 has less than half as many stream processors as the 9800GT.

If you were considering buying a 9800GT, then I'm going to assume you want to spend between $90 and $110 on a graphics card. My recommendation would be to go with a GTS250. They have 128 stream processors as opposed to 48 on the GT220 and 112 on the 9800GT. They cost about $15 more than a 9800GT, but that extra fifteen dollars is worth every penny.

The 9800GT will play every game on the planet better than the GT220. The amount of stream processors a graphics card has is about a hundred times more important than the amount of memory it has. A 9800GT with 512MB of memory will be more powerful than a GT220 even if the GT220 had 2GB or 4GB or even 8GB of memory. That's why you don't see GT220 cards with more than 1 or maybe 2GB of memory - because it doesn't increase performance. There aren't any games that can take advantage of more than about 1GB of graphics memory.
You also need to pay attention to the bus width - the amount of bits the card is - the GT220 is 128 bit, and the 9800GT is 256 bit. More is always better when it comes to the bits.
Spend the extra $10 and buy the GTS250 that I recommended above. It will run all of those games at nearly-maxed-out graphics settings, and it will be plenty powerful enough to run games that are released in the future at decently high settings as well.

it will run them..... but 35 fps isn't great.... like i said.... but yes it is faster than the 220

i am happy with the 9800's. I have three with 1 gig per card. and i am very happy with its work.

If you can go for ATI's 4770 or the 250, they're both about equal in performance and similar in pricing. Otherwise, just go for the 9800GT. On another note...you miiiight want to upgrade your HDD and/or RAM and knowing the screen resolution and your psu might also be helpful.
