Windows 7 intermittently drops wired connection

I have same problem, network randomly drops every so often while using the computer.

No wireless, all wire. Doesn't happen on any other of our systems running 7.

Okay guys stop bumping this thread. If you too have a problem create your own thread so that everyone has a chance to read it.
Also I should like to point out that you need to
1st check that your router is not overheating they don't have to get very warm before they break down. At room temp they only need to be on the carpet to overheat...
2nd Reboot the router and check all settings.
3rd Still a problem it's more than likely the router in this case.
All the best

This has absolutely nothing to do with a router. Nothing at all. Nada, zip, zero. It's also not a thermal issue. Perhaps you could have read the posts before you quashed the thread.
Let me reiterate that it's local to the machine and has nothing to do with anything beyond the physical computer case. Okay?!
I tried reinstalling with new Realtek drivers - it didn't work. In the process I also lost my sound 1/2 hour before the Super Bowl! Luckily I was able to figure out that it reset my audio drivers and had put the audio output to speakers instead of HDMI... 5 minutes before kickoff! *phew* Still at square 1 with this problem. >

I have a theory about all the network connection issues

what I think may be happening here is when an update of the device driver occurs during the time when the adapter is actively connected something happens to then cause the connection issue.

I would download the latest driver from vendor save it and disconnect the active connection if it's wired LAN unplug LAN cable if it's wireless turn off radio switch uninstall the device from device manager along with any other software connected with the device apply new driver and reactivate adapters and reconnect

I've also got a problem like this on a slightly different setup.

I've got an Internet connection from my ADSL2+ modem to a Windows 7 PC. I can use the Internet fine on that PC alone. However when a networked PC (they're Windows 7 and XP based) start trying to use the Internet dropouts start occurring; sometimes it'll drop out in 1 minute and at other times it'll work for an hour or so before carking it. The thing is even though the Internet drops out the actual network still works so files can be shared and copied over.

By the way the modem is also connected to a Realtek network card port, probably a trend with this brand?

I've been thinking of buying a switch to see if it'd fix it but I'll see how it goes here first.

I'm going to be buying a NIC this week and hopefully that will fix the problem. I do believe that this is a Realtek/Windows 7 issue that they have failed to address. Here is the statement from a Windows 7 employee on their forums (scroll to bottom, post by Cody): Windows 7 and loss of Internet connection

Before you go and buy a new router or whatever, I've found that this solution helps a lot of people that have the same complaint.

I'd like to suggest taking a look at your Network adapter. Start -> dev manager -> network adapter. Double click, open her up and then under "advanced", take a look at "Link Speed & Duplex".

If this is set to auto-negotiation, try re-setting it to 10 or 100mbps Full Duplex, re-start your computer and see if the problem persists.

For whatever reason, auto-negotiation features in some network cards poor.

Didn't work. Still same problems, going to go ahead with buying the new NIC tomorrow.

It seems like though some of the problems are similar to the OP, they are distinctly different.

The problem myself and the OP has is with Windows 7 completely turning off all network resources. This means that when the issue occurs, our machines completely drop from any network service and all communication ends. To top it off, if we open the device manager the network adapter itself is missing from the list of installed devices. So far no fix that works has been found for this and it may well be an issue with compatibility between Win 7 and the Realtek NIC.

There is a lot of confusion here and several different issues so maybe a new thread is in order.

No it's not Realtek, I went out and bought a Lynksys NIC: Linksys by Cisco EtherFast 10/100 LAN Card LNE100TX

I bought that after I had checked the Windows website that says this works: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/co...s&uid=LNE100TX&pf=0&pi=0&s=LNE100TX&os=32-bit

However after installing it, installing drivers, the problem persisted and once again I have no idea what to do, aside from reformatting back to XP, something stable.

Hello all!

I googled and found this forum and I must say I sort of have the same problem, if not entirely identical. So sorry for bumping an old thread.

I'm running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise Edition with latest OS patches, latest LAN drivers etc.

My network card belongs to the "Realtek PCIe GBE" family just like the thread starter's.

My issue is that my internet dies at random, usually when playing games (Global Agenda in this case) and I noticed that utorrent killed my connection as well. It doesn't happen that frequently but it does happen and when it does, it's frequency will increase and I got an unstable connection until reboot.
When it dies, I can't communicate with the router anymore, eg. pings don't work. I know it's not my router going haywire because other workstations that are connected to it works just fine.
Only way for me to get my net back up again is to go into the network and sharing thingy and Disable/Enable the LAN adapter and as soon as I enable the LAN adapter, I immediately get a working connection.

I can't recall having this issue when I got this machine (a bit over a month ago), it kinda started like a week ago, the day after I installed OpenSSH and hMailServer on this machine but I don't think those two applications are the root of the problem.

I downloaded that realtek diagnostic tool and looked around a bit and there are two tests you can do under "diagnostics", one works as a ping tester (sender and receiver) but if I start any of those, my connection dies! I doubt that's the way it should work heh.
Then there's the other diagnostic test where it tests "Register", "MAC loopback", "PHY looback", "IRQ" and "FIFO" and I've only run that test once and when it got to PHY loopback, my connection died again.

I noticed something interesting, whenever my connection died from the tests being provided in the realtek diagnostic tool, I still got a connection, it's just that it can no longer get DNS to work so pings works fine against IP address'.

Really weird..

I sent an email to Gigabyte who is my motherboard provider (onboard LAN..), we'll see what they say. I don't got good experience from motherboard manufacturers when it comes to support though, either they reply with obvious stuff or they don't reply at all...

Argh... I just want my computer to work as it should!! *pulls hair*

This may be an old link but I'm having the same issue, ASUS F2 A85M Pro, AMD A6 -6400 with Radeon HD Graphics, new builld PC. WIRED connection, 2 other PC's on Same Router 1 Dell, 1 home built Linux without any issues. Also Android and IOS devices connect OK wireless. This seems to happen after I switch the input on my Vizio monitor between the HDMI input 1 (Cable TV) and HDMI imput 2 (The PC) Restarting has solved the problem temporarily each time. That is not too bad with a SSD drive. Any Ideas out there?
