I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 x64, and my I cannot install from my DVD drive. When i attempt to open the drive in command prompt it gives me an I/O device error message. I can open media disks with no problem, and the drive appears in both device manager, and windows explorer. I've attempted to find the firmware for the driver (mat****a UJ-840s) but I have not been successful. One more note I went from a 32 bit XP to the 64 bit windows 7

Hi there
the UJ drive is made by Panasonic so any Panasonic DVD RAM driver should work -- but DVD-RAM is built into Windows in any case so it's strange that it's not being picked up. The last time the DVD-RAM driver by Panasonic was updated was way back in Windows 98 / Windows 2000 days.

Try "Uninstalling" and deleteing the DVD driver and after a reboot let Windows update find a new one.

In the device manager there is an option to delete the driver when uninstalling.

Cheers
jimbo

Agree with jimbo but instead of rebooting after you uninstall you can just go to action>scan for new hardware changes and the device manager should pick it back up.
