I view them all before execute dwnload and there wasn't any KB971033. How they gonna know when I did update [My Autoupdate is ON]...I don't get this?

I don't know where or how my roommate got the W7. i guess i will ask him when he gets home tomorrow. sounding like i make have to use my restore disks...and just resort back to Vista:cry:.

This is the culprit right here. When you don't know where your roommate got his copy of Windows, or evades answering the question, or says "Someone burned it for me" yeah, pirated software.

I hope this isn't the case but like someone else said, today, I'm seeing a lot of questions of this nature.

What happens if someone's HD crashes in the future, say 3 or 4 years, and they have to load an old image created when they first installed Windows 7? An old clean image like this won't have the update or any updates that they "resend."

For example, initially after installing Windows 7, I made a clean bear-bone image of the registered OS with all updates. Then after evaluating it for a few months, I reimaged my system with the bear-bone image and set it up with all my programs and made a 2nd image on a different drive. Both of these images were created before this update and if in the future I need to reimage my computer with one of them, neither will have this update. Does this mean MS will deny security updates to someone who restores their computer with an old image without this update?

I still haven't got this update: KB971033

I've had this Win7 32-bit for many months. Perhaps it's not been released for the UK?

As far as I can determine based on posts in this forum, the update was only available in North America. Some Canadian posters say they saw it and others say they never saw it. European users did not see the update.

There must be a lot of pirates from North America! :p

No it's typical MS public relations... They do it because they can get away with it in the US.

More information about this update

This update for Windows Activation Technologies helps detect validation errors and activation exploits. This update also detects any tampering attempts made to important Windows 7 system files. Be aware that some counterfeit copies of Windows include malware.

When this update is installed, it performs a validation process for the copy of Windows that is running on your computer. However, this validation process does not affect the functionality of Windows. The update process exits silently if it detects no validation errors, activation exploits, or tampered files.

Tampered Files
If the update discovers a tampered file, it tries to restore the file. This restore may require a restart. If this update cannot restore the tampered files, it will direct you more information on the Internet.

Validation Errors or Activation Exploits
Validation errors and activation exploits try to bypass the Windows activation process and are sometimes included with counterfeit copies of Windows. If a validation error or activation exploit is detected, you will be directed to more information on the Internet for resolution of the activation exploit or the validation error. When validation errors or activation exploits are removed, you may be asked to use a valid product key to activate the copy of Windows 7 that is running on your computer. If you decide not to resolve the validation error or the activation exploit at that time, you will be periodically notified that the copy of Windows 7 that is running on your computer is not genuine. Additionally, Windows will provide a link to more information online for resolution.
Description of the update for Windows Activation Technologies

That page doesn't say it but I thought this update was optional and un-installible. They are just testing it out at this stage. Wasn't there another long thread on this here already?

Mandelson made that anti-piracy policy after having a secret meeting with the anti-piracy organisations on their yacht! This was reported in the media (google it).

I'm surprised Bill Gates hasn't invited Mandelson on his super yacht yet! :D
