About four months ago i put windows 7 64 bit ultimate, that i got from my roommate, on my computer. it has worked great for months and just a few minutes ago i went to my desktop, and my background had changed to black and there is now the words "Windows 7 Build 7600 This Copy of Windows is not genuine." Why did all of a sudden that pop up? is there away to either make it genuine or a way to make the words go away?

Ok, it was implemented on 2/23... From your post I thought something had changed in the last day or so, didn't want to miss out. :roflmao:

If you did miss out, you missed nothing. The only benefit as far as I could see is for MS. I agree with their decision to implement the security, but if they bypassed me, I would not call to complain.

You must have missed the "Press Release". MS clearly states that piracy enforcement benefits us, not them...

Actually the press release was correct, the more piracy the more they charge for the DVD.

Hey Rich, was just being sarcastic... :sarc:

I know, a little humor is a good thing. I was being sarcastic, too. Sometimes its really hard to get the true meaning of a statement, when the person cannot be seen. Take care.

I tell you.. MS would have gotten an earful if one of my new machines had come back with windows is not genuine message. I should NEVER have to reactivate a legitimate windows installation that came from a retail or OEM disk.

I don't know where or how my roommate got the W7. i guess i will ask him when he gets home tomorrow. sounding like i make have to use my restore disks...and just resort back to Vista:cry:.

Hi folks just wondering,

The thing that happened in February was called Validation right? So when we initially installed its was called Activation? Is this a case of same thing different name and how could a copy that is Activated fail validation?

just my curiosity gone a bit wild I think..

Many thanks

When you install the OS you give a key, when accepted that is activation. Everyone must activate.

In February an update was issued to insure that all the Window 7 OS in use have been activated ( this is validation). This is an attempt by MS to cut down on piracy. If you are not activated or you have a cracked copy, you will no longer be able to use your OS, even if you were sucessful in the past.

If you're unable to reactivate it, I think it's quite clear where it came from, and I'd lay money that 90% of the people coming here making similar threads ALSO know where it actually came from.

I still haven't got this update: KB971033

I've had this Win7 32-bit for many months. Perhaps it's not been released for the UK?

Same here I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise [drive C: failure] and after install all critical updates KB971033 wasnt there. Did MS remove this file?
