Windows disk management isn't so nifty for moving the start of partitions. You are pretty much stuck adding the free space to the partiton it's immediately to the right of. Disk management can make partitions larger be extending the end, but it doesn't want to mess with the beginning.

I've heard Partition Wizard freeware is more flexible.

You would have to get some other 3rd party software to move the unallowcated to the right of the D; partition to be able to add it to D; by Extend Volume.

You could use this free utility, the Ultimate Boot Disc. You can download it here: CLICK ME

Just burn the ISO to CD, then boot from your DVD/CD drive. You can mess with the partitions in DOS, which is my prefered method. As always, be extremely careful that you don't delete your OS partition.

rashid,
if you dont want to use 3rd party software, heres the long way out.

1) Format the unallocated space and create a new partition say X:
2) Move all your files from D: to X:
3) Delete partition D: so it will show up as unallocated space.
4) Extend X: to include the unallocated space.
5) Rename X: to D:

Recreate a new volume

Hi,

It looks like you have very few files on the D drive in this case there is a easier way out for you.

Copy the files from d drive to a new folder on c drive.
Delete the d drive partition.
now you will have the d drive space and the unallocated space as unallocated space,
Right click the new unallocated space create a new volume or drive of the size you want

Transfer the files from the new folder in c to the new d drive;) As simple as that.

Senior-geek needs help

Doc - Could you take a look at my similar problem. Pretty detailed description, but with links. Am in a bind with D: drive size.

I have only posted 1-2 times here, so if you do a search for my "wouffhong" name or "6340F" you will find the problem and unsuccessful fix(es) pretty fast.

Title: HP D: Drive (Recovery) space saga - UNSOLVED. :-(
