My Screenshot turned Yellow!

I reformatted my harddisk (originally installed with Win 7) with Win 7.

I then took some screenshots, pasted them in paint, and saved them in paint, as the default png file.

The screenshots looked normal when I was looking at them in Paint, before I saved them. However I discovered that there is something wrong with them when I opened them in Windows Photo Viewer just now. The screenshots appear with a yellow tint when opened in Windows Photo Viewer for some unknown reason. However, they appear perfectly normal in Paint and their preview thumbnails (as seen in Windows Explorer) appear perfectly normal as well.

Does anyone know what is wrong? Or how I can find out what the problem is?

Try downloading the excellent free viewer "Irfanview" and try them in that. if they appear OK then you might have a problem with Win photo viewer. Might need to do a file check but I would try the Irfanview idea first.

The yellow tint is caused by a bad profile installed for your monitor. A lot of programs do not bother with color profiles but IE and the windows picture viewer do.

In your monitor prefs, remove the currently set color profile and that should fix it. (Or set to the default sRGB).

I'll have to wait till I'm home to print out the steps unfortuantely...

When I opened other image files using Windows Photo Viewer, the same thing happens, they turn yellowish. So, it may be a problem with the Windows Photo Viewer, but how can I fix it?

1. What do you mean by "bad profile installed for your monitor"? I didn't use any installation CDs or whatsoever for my monitor. The only installation CD I used that could be related to graphics, would be the installation of the Driver for my Graphics Card.

2. You mentioned that IE and the windows picture viewer uses the "color profile". The strange thing is that the preview thumbnails of the pictures appear in the correct colour tone in Windows Explorer but appears with a yellow tint in Windows Photo Viewer. In fact, the borders (encompassing the picture) provided by Windows Photo Viewer is yellow instead of the supposed whitish/greyish-blue.

How do I go to the "monitor prefs"? I don't see any option resembling "color profile" when I right click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution":
Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution

The thing is I recently reformatted my hard disk and reinstalled Windows 7 Pro (the 2nd time I'm installing it. The first time I ever installed Win 7 Pro, this yellow tint problem did not happen...

Hi Ravanx
Have you got control buttons on the front of your monitor ie Menu, Up and down arrows an enter sign and Auto sign. If you have Auto try clicking that once and see if that helps.

Ah, sorry I forgot to look it up last night

Anyway, I had this happen with one of my monitors. I think it may have happened when I installed Photoshop. At some point someone installed an ICC profile for my monitors and the one for my secondary wasnt right and in windows image viewer everything was tinted yellowish.

I removed the profile from the monitor prefs and it went back to normal. Is should be under display properties, advanced, Color Management or something ike that. Remove any profiles you find under there.

Like Ravanx I would like to know how to get to "Monitor Prefs" please? A search reveals nothing!

Ok, right click on the screen, select screen resolution, then click advanced settings. On the dialog that pops up click Color Management and your there. Click "Use my settings" then remove all profiles from the monitor and it should work ok. I don;t know whysupplied profiles dont seem to work right. I haven;t loked into it too much.

I reformatted my hard disk today.
While I was still on the motherboard vga card (before I installed my vga card driver), the screenshots were ok.
After I installed my vga card driver, the screenshots still looked ok.
But this time round, I did not install the vga driver update provided by Microsoft through Windows Update. My theory is that there is something wrong with that vga driver update provided by Microsoft... but I shall not give it a try.

This happens every time install a new photoshop, fseal's method is what i do everytime and works perfectly
