The neighborhood had an electric outage this afternoon. Battery backup apparently did not work when I tried to save open folders.
So, I lost some material in Open Office Calc - about three hours of previous work. Even though I have OO set for backup and save every five minutes - I can not find backup files. Where?

Even more strange, all folders (everything) has read only and hidden check marked. I have the option show all folders in FO but folders are grayed out. If I remove the check marks when I open properties the icon ungrays itself.
How do I remove the hidden and read only from every thing?
Some folders appear empty but I know there are files in them.
Oh yes, the Catalyst Control Center is also not functioning.
I did a restore twice to several hours previous. Still everything is hidden and read only. And the files did not come back.
40 yrs on computers - never had this happen before.
No virus or malware.
Win 7 64 bit, 8 Gs, HP
Confused and pissed in texas

P>S> I use to have the blue screen/black screen every morning when I was using IE 8 but have not had one in several months with Mozzilla

Read this tutorial to add the take ownership command to your context menu, use it on your parent drive [C:]
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html

If that doesn't help, try using the command ATTRIB -R C: to make your entire C: drive readable and writable. However, I'd be careful with that command and only use it as a last resort.

How about a system restore or a restore from an image.

He did two restores already with zero positive results, if nothing else helps a repair install or a reformat and clean install may be his only options.

OK, try something else (system restore does not restore user files). Run Shadow Explorer and use a restore point from which you think the folders were still intakt. Then navigate to your folders, right click on them and "Export". That will bring them back into your system or wherever you want to park them.

Shadow explore had the same date and time yesterday that I previously restored from. The take ownership addition did nothing.
Everything has been marked as read only and as hidden files. In folder options I have checked off show hidden files and everything is grayed out unless I go to each item and uncheck the hidden file box. Even if I uncheck the read only box and close properties it will revert back to read only when I open again . (When I checked the show hidden files the OO calc came back in folders). Its like Open Office has become a system file and is hidden)
I have downloaded a new copy of OO and installed that but that did nothing.
Somewhere in the control panel there is a hide everything button but I can't find it.
