laptop with windows 7 32 bit upgrading to 64bit

I am buying a laptop that has windows 7 32 bit... it has everything i want on it accept a 32 bit version of windows 7. it doesn't even come with a back up disc.

does anyone one know if my OEM license that will have will some how allow me to install a 64 bit version of windows and then use the same key as i have allready for 32 bit windows seven to activate? or will likely i need to buy a new key for 64 bit.

When going from 43bit to 64bit you have to do a clean install. I dont think The 32 bit OEM key you have will work for 64bit OEM>

I think usually the OEM will only have 32 or 64 depending on which one you purchase. If you purcahse the Full Retail, it comes with both 32 and 64 and the key will work for either one.

you might have to call the OEM or if you cant upgrade through OEM, buy full version.

Depending on the OEM, sometimes you can request a install CD and they will send it to you for a small fee (shipping and cost of CD). (usually about $20-$30)

And as Zigzag said: you cant "upgrade" from 32 to 64. You need to do a clean install.

Yes, you can use the same key. Product keys are SKU (edition) dependent, not architecture (32 bit/ 64 bit)dependent. While the media is different, the key licences you to use either as long as it is within the same context i.e. OEM for OEM, Upgrade for Upgrade etc.
