Hello,

I have a new PC with the following configuration. any USB device (except mouse and keyboard) is not recognised (e.g. external hard disks, flash memory, iphone, camera, etc.)
Tried several solutions; like changing the usb port, switching off the pc power, updating the windows. Nothing works.

ALso; when I use 3D graphic applications, like imvu, or 3D games (like battle realms) the program starts and runs for sometime; then the pc restarts (it shows the blue screen). My graphics card is nvidia geforce 400 Series GTX 480. The graphics card is 1.0 GB

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4.00 GB RAM (3.00 USABLE), 32-bit operating System windows 7 Home Basic (Genuine). Directx is 11

Any help will be really appreciated.

Regards,

Sherif

I suspect power supply... GTX 480 gobbles power like a river... anyway, fill out your system spec, down to the last detail (every detail counts, make/model numbers, specs, everything). More info = better view of your problem.

You didn't provide any specs for your PSU. That's kinda' important considering the graphics card your currently running.

It could be a few other things too. RAM, or GFX card not properly seated [causing the BSOD's]. USB controller driver needs updated. USB controller isn't enabled in BIOS. Not enough clean power from PSU.

Most likely your problem is one, or more, of the above.

I am trying to find any tool which can detect the PSU brand.
I found sme tools like 'Everest' and CPU-Z which can detect som features, including the wattage of the power supply. Any recommendation for a tool which can detect the PSU?
Thanks

You'll need to open the case... but DO NOT do it if your pc is still under warranty period. Remember to turn it off and to unplug it before open the case.

Let us see the results!!!

I updated my specifications.
However I did not open the case to identify the PSU, as I know little about hardware. I will try to open it with a friend of mine.
I noticed that the temperature of the graphics card is 46 degree (without any intense graphics application running). Is it hot? My friend told me this is common problem (for the pc to restart once the card becomes hot), and advised to check the graphics card fan.
The computer came with windows 7 installed; and the USB drivers are dated 2006. However when I check for windows updates; I found no updates are required.
Another thing; I think the vendor installed card reader. From the USB definitions; can he used the usb internally for the card readers?

Thanks a lot for everyone.

USB drivers are normally "old", it rarely got updated unless there's a new USB standard (USB 3.0 is coming). As for your graphic card, you said at the start of the thread, that it's GTX 480 - the current NVIDIA's Monster, yet after you update your system spec profile, it shows as 9400 GT...? Which one is the right one? If yours is GTX 480, then you REALLY NEED to check your power supply, that card can really suck a lot of power... on the contrary that 9400GT, that's NVIDIA's low end card. It should be very energy efficient, cool, and close to noiseless. But you get what you paid for with 9400 GT, don't expect it to perform above anything but low detail in ANY game. Open your case, see what power supply make/model/specs, report back.

The OP's rig has the 9400 GT installed. It's his friends rig [the one he is working on in this thread] that has the GTX 480 in it.

46ºC is "normal" for nVidia cards. How many fans have your case?! Better, it has some brand, model and things like those?! I suspect it has no good ventilation or minimal number of fans intake. If possible, take a shot and post it here!

First of all, I would really like to thank everyone who helped me.

I discovered the solution for the USB (by chance). There was 'Intel (R) N10/ICH7 Family USB2 Enhanced Controller - 27CC'; and once I disabled it; the external hard disk was detected.
There are another 4 USBs similar to the mentioned one; with different endings '27C8, 27C9, 27CA, 27CB'. I think if I disable them as well; the other USBs will be also detected.

Still the graphics issue. I will open the CPU with a firend; and check the PSU.

Thanks again; and I will keep updating.

Sherif
