URGENT! My baby (computer) died :(

That would JUST about fit. I actually might get it as I'm planning on getting a Antec 1200 really soon just because my case is so small :(

Umm, I have an HP 2710p Tablet PC, and the only time it got really hot was when I was doing a lot of things (and with a couple of UFDs plugged in as well) - but I explored the BIOS and enabled a setting that "always runs the fan" when plugged into AC....

never had a problem with heat since....

That;'s you, Romulinux. Others have a need to OC for whatever reason it might be - from the need to have speed without being able to afford the premium to the need to feel proud of themselves for some worthless achievement to the need to hone up on hardware tweaking skills in order to get a job as a hardware tester for a place like AnandTech....

People OC for whatever reason, and the reason behind the OC is neither here nor there - if you cannot offer help on re-achieving the OC, then please refrain from commenting, so this thread does not turn into a flame war.

My bios is completely locked and I'm not easy on my systems, CPU rarely drops below 50% under "normal" usage. Just browsing will have it around 5% though.

Celsius (H) It's funny, because it never goes any higher, just sits at 82 and wont budge if under load even. Not sure if it throttles back hard because gaming isnt influenced.

If it sticks at the one temp at all times it's most likely a stuck sensor ;)

Btw, Bryce, did you check in CPU-Z what your PCI-E speed is? I've had a motherboard which initially worked quite well even for overclocks, but after a failed overclock, it started setting my PCI-E speed at x1 as soon as I tried overclocking... In the end, I found out that it was the north bridge of the chipset causing trouble because it suddenly started requiring a higher voltage to succesfully overclock (As you may know, it also controls I/O and other functions and hence when it lacked the needed voltage, it slowed everything it was responsible for, not just the PCI-E bus. Therefore, the x1 speed of the PCI-E bus was basically just an indication). Heck, even my sound from the built-in soundcard was choppy as hell when it was setting the PCI-E to x1 (another indicator, that)...

Or maybe it was the south bridge... I keep mixing them up... But that is of no consequence... :)

I had this problem on a crappy XP computer. Take out the components and blow on every single one of them. The ports, the connectors, etc. If that doesn't work, kick the computer a few times.

I'm serious about this. I'm using the XP computer right now.

I call it the craptop.
My bios is completely locked and I'm not easy on my systems, CPU rarely drops below 50% under "normal" usage. Just browsing will have it around 5% though.

If your *CPU* usage is around 50% under normal usage, you've got way too much stuff running. My laptop under 'normal' usage in Win7 doesn't break a sweat at over 33% max, and under a heavy load I can get it to break 60%....

And at idle it is like 2-5%.

Celsius (H) It's funny, because it never goes any higher, just sits at 82 and wont budge if under load even. Not sure if it throttles back hard because gaming isnt influenced.

If it sticks at the one temp at all times it's most likely a stuck sensor ;)

agreed

This is a laptop....

I still remember getting a HUGE 512mb hard drive on sale for $388. It was a super deal.

Now I have 4 times that on my keychain for $7.

Lol yeah, some of us older computer users have all sorts of stories - mine relates to a Tandy 1000 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - I had dual 260K 5.25" floppies and a whopping 256K of RAM. Along with a Dot Matrix printer, it was well over $2000.

My machine to the left, by contrast, was built for about the same price a year ago....

I remember back in the day when Conner was *the* HD manufacturer, when Quantum Fireballs were loved by all, when I found out the hard way that my Gateway2000 486SX/25 machine had a mobo that only ran in multiples of 20 and 25 MHz - so my 486DX2/66 CPU only ran at 50 MHz with the jumper in the proper position....but my Conner 425MB HD played nicely with my Conner 850MB drive, whereas that 850 would not play nicely with any other drive (other than itself also) if on the same IDE chain....

Ahh, those were the days - when hardware was *simple*. lol, not.
