I have installed Media Browser to my laptop, and it runs fine with my Media Center. It sees all of my TV shows that are on my computer. However any of the movies that I have ripped onto my computer it isn't seeing. If I convert the MKV files to avi they are seen but this is an extra step that I'd rather not take. I have DivX installed as well. I am on a Dell laptop with windows 7 (x64) Any help would be really great! Thanks.

try downloading media centre master then trawl through one by one getting the metadata for your movies make sure you have the name of the film and year if poss also have the IMDB site open, when MCM cant find the data you can find it yourself when you find the page of the movie you are looking for in the address bar there will be a number begining tt.... copy and paste it into the page MCM puts up for you to enter number, if the number page disappears in MCM rescan folder til page comes back up.
this may seem confusing but when you use it its easy ,i spent the weekend re doing my folders for meta data and media browser looks fantastic.
also you can find movie posters on google images if MCM cant find the poster, i found if you rename the poster "folder" it will load into media browser occasionally you will see a blank space in media browser where the poster should be even though you have it downloaded ,if you go into the film page in media browser and see the film info ther ius a refresh button click it and you should then see the poster when you go back a page .try it and see anyhow it worked for me (MCM) WHEN MEDIA BROWSER WOULD ONLY FIND SIX OUT OF 219 FILMS oops s'cuse the caps

You just need the proper splitters for MKV files.

Try Sharks Codec package.
It will have all the needed splitters, and even MKV thumbs will work.
Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs

If you have a 64bit OS, you will need the basic 32 bit and the 64bit add-on as well.

no offence to orbital shark but when i used his codecs my media center wouldn't find my movies i used klite codecs and its fine.
anyhow i think the OP is saying his mkv's and divx play on his media center its the media browser pluggin that wont see mkv and divx files as i said using media center master bypasses this issue as it puts the metadata for the movie in the movie file and this info backgrounds ,posters ,actors, film rating ie pg ,18,r etc it alsogives a description of the movie

Oh boy this is opening a can of worms again, theirs basically loads ways of fixing this firstly is Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs, or you could try the divx stuff DivX Plus Codec Pack ? DivX codecs for Windows media player | DivX.com then there is installing a codec pack like Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 5.9.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.9.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 5.9.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools or CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack or you can go ahead and just install FFshow like explained in this Guide: Setting up Codecs using FFDShow - Media Browser Community Tracker or you could just install the Haali Media Splitter splitter

Out of the above which would i recommed? any of them apart from a full blown codec pack like k-lite have a number of PC's at home running win 7 and I don't think anyone them have the same MKV solution.

Media Centre Master has nothing to do with his problem of MKV's not showing up in media browser thou yes it is a very handy program to have esp now that meta-browser has gone pay

Media master (while a decent app) is simply meta data fetcher.

All it does is fetch the info for Media Center to display and has nothing to do with the actual playback of MKV files.

In order to get MKV files playing correctly you need the proper splitter. Haali in this case.

I suggest Sharks pack because it does not make any associations, nor does it interfer with what Win7 has going on natively, although it does have the power to do so if the user chooses.
It also supports thumbnails with MKV files.

Although there are many options & opinions on the matter, you do need at least a splitter.

run the config tool which came with media browser (remembering to run it as admin), click on advanced, then click on the extender +ISO tab, in extenders tick the the transcode box, then add .NKv to the list of file types below it

op is saying that media browser wont see movies he has RIPPED to his computer he mentions mkv files also ,giving the impression that he can play these files normally on his pc already.so i assume no codec issue ,having just re -organised a large movie file mysef to use in media browser i am aware that MB wont fetch the meta data for some movies thus forcing one to scrape the meta data manually using.....media center master, or a choice of many meta data fetchers
perhaps the OP could clear this point up save us fafing !!!

Alright, I can now see everything on my computer but I can't see it on my xbox360. Any suggestions?

Tends to lead me to belive that we've fixed the codec issuse, I'd guess that as MC on an X64 system, as the OP has, is a 64 bit program wheres WMP and what ever he was using to rip films to MKV was a 32bit program. Hence why he could create MKV's but not see them, now he has added a 64bit codec/splitter he can watch them in MC/MB.

The not seeing them/ them not playing issuse is due to the 360 not supporting MKV's out of the box, which is why I said to enable the transcode option in the config tool.

I ripped using makeMKV and yes I changed the transcode on the config tool but that didn't help.
