hello guys, i bought a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. i ran "dxdiag" and it says my win 7 home premium is 64 bit, build 7600. My big problem is that, i have 2 program file folders one with "program files" only, and the other with "program files (x86). my knowledge for this is that i have a 64 bit os installed on a 32 bit processor? am i wrong? All i know is that x86 is 32 bit and x64 is 64 bit. So why is it that a 64 bit os is preinstalled in a 32 bit processor?. i appreciate all your replies, thnx =)

It's completely normal. Most programs are still coded in 32-bit (x86). Your native x64 programs will install in the Program Files folder. The native x86 software will install into the x86 Program Files folder. Others could probably describe this in greater detail.

Here's a screenshot of my x64 system.

I can't wait for the day when the differences between x64 and x86 will become common knowledge. That will probably be around the time we are running a 128-bit version of Windows.

You have two separate Program Files directories, by design, to keep the x86 native apps separate from the x64 native apps. it is perfectly normal, and when you are installing something, let it go to the directory it chooses.

You also obviously have a 64-bit capable processor, or else you wouldn't be running Windows 7 x64. For future reference, fill out your system specs, and then we'd know for sure what processor you had.
