burnt out laptop GPU

Hey,

so, do you think it would be possible to disable the GPU in a laptop and just use integrated graphics across the CPU? like intel graphics media?

This happend to me on a dell laptop and replacing the mainboard was the only fix.

why? i'm just curious but why wouldn't it work to just disable the GPU? and use integrated graphics?

What is the manufacturer? You seem to think you have integrated graphics and a graphics card in your laptop. Most laptops only have integrated graphics with no add on MMX cards, DELL would be one of the few laptop builders that allow the MMX card to be replaced/upgraded. I upgraded my ATi 9700M 128 Mb GPU to an ATi 9800M 256 Mb GPU but that was the highest it could be upgraded to. The M17x Alienware I have came with nVidia two 280M GTX cards running in SLi and an integrated nVidia 9400 for use while running on battery, I have upgraded the GPU's to two ATi 4870's running in CrossFireX and the integrated 9400 is still utilized when on battery. There are provisions in the BIOS to enable/disable both the Hybrid Graphics and the integrated graphics so I would look to your BIOS, or at least fill out your specs in more detail.

If it's one one the intel i7 6xx chips that have an integrated GPU, then yes you could disable the 'onboard' GPU and use the CPU's integrated GPU.

So, i'm guessing that this computer cannot run graphics any other way than through the GPU which is burnt out?

Correct. The GPU is soldered to the motherboard with the only fix being a new motherboard.

and unless you really pay attention to what you are doing, really should be done in a shop.

You could use the same CPU that is in it now. The GPU is a non-issue as it is soldered/integrated/built into the motherboard, there is nothing to add or replace.
