Solved What is hijack.startmenu?

Malwarebytes just detected "hijack.startmenu". I Googled it but all the Malwarebytes threads won't load. I think its a safe registry entry but cant be sure.

What do you think?

Should I add it to the "ignore" list?

What would happen if I deleted it through Malwarebytes?

Do you have any other signs of infection? Did you disable any items from appearing in the start menu?

Hallo RoloDman, it is generally a false positive and usually crops up during Heuristics scanning (in other words not defined malware just behaving like known malware). I have found it crops up on some operating systems and not others.
You could whitelist or just let mbam do its thing (mbam will just change the registry value back to zero.)

no other signs of infection, using MSE and Superantispyware.

Then add it to the ignore list. hijack.startmenu is the registry key used by windows for removing items from the start menu. MBAM detected it because some viruses use it to make it harder to perform certain task.

I actually used MBAM to delete it, I hope that was not a mistake

I have run into it numerous times with Seven, Vista & XP & just let mbam do its thing and never suffered any ill effect

(mbam will have put it in quarantine well it has every time i have run into it, so if you have any problems you can just restore it,)
