You can also do an anytime upgrade, but that method is not the best, it is not a clean install.

It doesn't need to be Anytime Upgrade just activates the bits that are disabled. You don't have to go though the lengthy upgrade processes you normally do. So in this case it is the best choice.

Logicearth has given good advice, but be sure there are no problems with your current OS. No malware, corruption, etc. They will be carried over to the new system.

No, Sorry, Microsoft is a business trying to make money. You bought a license (key) for one edition, You need another key to install another.

I would combine both suggestions above. I'd buy the DVD, so you can do clean/fresh installs in the future, but once you get the DVD, just pop in the key from what you buy, and it will be upgraded on the fly to Professional.

No, because the different versions were created for different end users and were priced accordingly as well. You wouldn't want to pay the same higher price as someone who wanted Ultimate features, if all you needed was a basic OS, right?

The problem is that I think under the EULA you'd need to buy a full retail version Win7 as Starter does not qualify for Upgrade to Win7..

So the priciing might make Anytime Upgrade a better buy. Check for yourself.

If you have on hand any retail copy of XP or Vista, even if it isn't installed, then you do qualify for Upgrade version so you can try it's key in Anytime Upgrade, or clean reinstall using DVD. There is even a workaround to do an in-place Upgrade between Win7 versions.

Thank you All for helping me,
