Need help with subtitles

I have a problem with subtitles on my videos in both Windows Media Player and Divx, which used to work just fine on Windows Vista.

Two different movies I have tried, one being an .avi file, the other being a .mp4 file and both subtitles being .srt files. I read up on some other forum, and found that I had to download a file called "vsfilter.dll", which actually did make it work perfectly for the .avi video in both Windows Media Player and Divx.

However, the .mp4 file still doesn't show any subtitles, unless I'm playing it in a non-maximized screen in Divx. Now my question is how do I get to subtitles to work for .mp4 files in both Windows Media Player and Divx, no matter what screen sizing I'm watching the video on.

Do you think that a DPI adjustment might help. (DOTS PER INCH)

I have it on 100%, the smallest I can get. Would that be the best to keep it on? Or what are the recommended settings for this?

Have you tried Direct VOB Sub or FFDShow?

They are included in Shark007s Codec pack.

I forgot to mention in my first post, I did also download CCCP which helped with what I had yesterday.
I just downloaded that file, but it didn't seem to do anything to my subtitles, unless there's certain settings that need to be changed in the program?

I have just tried viewing another.avi file with subtitles, and that one also seems to stop viewing subtitles when I increase the size of the Divx window or go full screen. In smaller size it does just work well, and in Windows Media Player it works in any size. The .mp4 file however, still doesn't get any subtitles to show in Windows Media Player, and only in a small screen in Divx.

Thanks a lot. I tried some of those things and it's finally working 100% in Windows Media Player.
