Is there a way to dual boot to XP, after installing 7?

Just delete the partition and then make it a primary partition labeled "windows XP" like it shows in the tutorial.

I deleted it and formatted it, but it's still a "Healthy (Logical Drive)" - is that alright?

When I try to load the Windows XP disk and start the setup, after awhile it gives me this blue screen error each time:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF748E0BF, 0xF78DA208, 0xF78D9F08)

pci.sys address F748E0BF base at F7487000 datestamp 3b7d855c

I can't even get to this part.

I don't know about "NOTE: Make sure that the CD/DVD drive is selected first in the boot order in the BIOS.", but that might be causing the error, as I don't really know how to do that.

Primary would better, you can leave it unallocated if you can't make it primary. Is this a sata or pata drive? and is it a vanilla XP or does it have a service pack and if it does which one.

Noles. Hey is this a full version of XP you have or is it a back up cd from dell? The back up or so called restore disc could be missing some drivers need to continue with the install.

I believe his dell came with vista, Any i was thinking that it has a sata drive so he will need to f6 to load them or switch to ide mode if his bios has that option.

Well when I delete the drive it just leaves it as a "Free Space" (light green color). I can't even make it unallocated, and if I can I don't know how to. I'm not supposed to delete the actual partition, am I?

Here's what it looks like:

I'm not really sure if it's a pata/sata (I'm new to this). The XP CD just says:

OPERATING SYSTEM
Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

"Reinstallation CD"

Mine did, yes. The other computer I have has XP on it. So I need to load the CD using F6 - not the way described in the tutorial? I was just pressing F12 to get to the boot menu and then booting from the CD, and then attempting the installation.

Yes delete the actual D: partition, perform that step twice and it will be unallocated then you can create a primary partition.

Provide the dell model number and we can look it up, as for a "Reinstallation CD" you may or may not be able to install that on a machine that it did not come with.

Use F12 to boot to cd as you did and during the the process shown in the tutorial a prompt will flash at the bottom of the screen indicating to press F6. Unfortunately with XP you need a floppy drive to load the drivers or slipstream them into the XP disc.

Forgot to mention if you don't have a floppy or slipstreaming is more than you want to do there may be an option in the bios to switch to ide mode which does not require you to load the drivers.

The product key? That's all I can see. If you tell me where it is I'll try to find it.

No floppy drive. :(

Ide mode? Want to explain a bit more on that?

Can you make it so the space is unallocated?.

Dell model number as in "Dell Inspiron 530s" it should be on the case somewhere (back/bottom usually).

Explain ide mode? well in layman terms it will let XP see and use the drive without having to load extra drivers. Different bios name it differently like (ide mode, compatabilty mode , legacy mode) and OEM's don't give you access to all options so you may or may not have a choice.

Yes, I did. After I did I tried formatting it or whatever, and that's the error I got.

So where do I go (specifically) to try and test this out?

Dimension 4400 does not have sata so try installing into the unallocated space and if the problem still exits it may be the "Reinstallation CD".

Well unless the installation would fail because the space (which I wasn't even given a chance to pick yet) wasn't unallocated, then I guess it's the CD.

So... I guess I'm just out of luck then.
