What's your memory assessment speed?

Status
Not open for further replies.
What did you change to get the increase? I've got the same speed ram and am only getting around 7000mb even though I have 8gb of it.

I'm not sure what to tell you...I bought identical sticks and put them in the same paired channel to get dual channel...

if you did the same, then I don't know what to tell you...I don't know much at all about memory at the moment

ok thanks anyways. I don't know much about it either but it's been like that for a while so no big deal.

I tried putting them in another machine and it got much higher results around 14000, so I'm thinking it's something to do with my mobo.

Is your RAM 2x2GB cards?
Your MOBO should have 4 RAM slots.

If this is the case, check your manual, make sure you have the RAM (assuming 2 RAM cards and 4 slots) installed in the correct slots.

If they are in the wrong slots you can get single channel mode, which would explain your scores.

Next option would be to check for updates for the chipset driver and your BIOS.

they are 4x2gb sticks so all the slots are filled. There aren't any new bios updates. How can i check for chipset driver updates?

Win 7 6.1 7600 HP 8 GB 1333 DDR3 Intel Core i7 930 @ 2.8 GHz completely stock no additional overclocking. The total run time for the test ran a little long due to Comodo Proactive Defense+ permissions. Certainly not the best mark, but a satisfying 342% better than my Win Vista 6.0 Build 6000 computer which has 3 GB DDR 2 and an AMD Turion TL-60 dualie...

With your fairly powerful setup, you should be able to get even better memory readings. Could you list your memory timings.

As Dave76 posted, you have an OEM motherboard which is most definitely locked down and there is not much you can do to tweak the system. Normally a processor such as yours could easily run at far higher speeds without necessarily stressing your system and I suspect with a little increase in voltage, your RAM could also run with better timings. On the other hand, you should have a very stable system that is already running very well. Enjoy

IDE or AHCI should make no difference to RAM performance. With Dell computers you have very limited flexibility beyond updating drivers.
One suggestion, if all four slots are occupied, remove two sticks and retest your performance. There are many motherboards that should work with all slots occupied but frequently run into issues with full utilization of all RAM slots.
Best of luck.

AHCI won't improve your RAM performance, it will have an affect on your HDD performance if they have the capability to utilize it. Older hardware won't have any improvement.

Have you tried the Intel AHCI drivers?
They worked on my Dell desktop, match them up with your controller.

Your best bet is to try and find a Dell chipset driver.

Maybe I'm missing something, but with a Core i7 system can't you run the memory in Triple-Channel mode? Or did Dell not permit that?

The reason I ask is that you might actually improve things by removing one stick (you have to get the right one!) and enabling triple-channel. 6GB would still be plenty of RAM and you might see a big speed increase.

I don't have an i7 system (I wish lol) I've just got a core 2 quad and I'm pretty sure the xps 430 only supports dual channel even though its ddr3.
