No Internet Access - Please, Please, Please Help

Hi guys

I really need some help. I've been trying to fix this problem for about 24 hours now and I have gotten nowhere.

My girlfriend has a Sony Vaio netbook and is connecting to the internet via a USB Mobile Broadband device and it was working perfectly until yesterday. When I try to connect to the internet I get the following:

IPv4 Connectivity: No Internet Access
IPv6 Connectivity: No Network Access

It actually seems to connect to the internet and sometimes the IPv4 Connectivity changes to "Internet" but still no pages will load.

The netbook has Windows 7 Starter and I have even did a clean install this morning but still the same problem.

I myself have a desktop with Windows Vista and it works fine with the same Mobile Broadband. I get the following:


IPv4 Connectivity: Internet
IPv6 Connectivity: Limited

Can anybody please help me as I am going out of my mind?

I have attached screenshots from both systems of the "Network and Sharing Center" Screen.

This may seem obvious , have you tried right clicking on the computer icon ,beside your speaker icon bottom right and click troubleshoot problems

Unfortunately I have tried this but to no avail.

I think I am going to throw the netbook out the window shortly!!!

No reason to get violent with the poor netbook. It looks like an IP address problem. Turn off your Netbook, Modem and router (if any), wait for a couple of minutes and turn everything back on (Netbook last).

Which mobile broadband modem are you using. When out and about i have a three modem which doesnt use IPv6 anyway.Are you connecting through the companies dashboard or through windows itself.

What changed yesterday? Windows updates? I know one update that breaks my adapter, perhaps one screwed up hers.

An idea would be to tell us the make and model of the USB adapter.

You may find that some of us are using the very same adapter and thus might be able to give you a quick and easy solution.

I know you've clicked on the network icon in the system tray, but still try following:
WIN | type troubleshoot | ENTER

select Network and Internet


Oh yes, the name of your ISP might help.

Have you tried goiing to a Starbucks and connecting there?

Starbucks WiFi is now 100% free.

its a mobile usb guys , they can be a reet royal pain in the behind , i would suggest as a first course of action rining your dongle supplier , they will troubleshoot for you for free this way we can eliminate a simple dongle issue , if you still have no luck with them ie they inform you your dongle is fine then come back and we can help further

remmber they want you online and happy with their service so they will help even if it turns out you know more than they do (which is often the case!) at least its worth a shot mate

and i would suggest disabling IPV6 as a matter of course as has already been mentioned

The ISP is Meteor and the adapter is a Huawei Mobile Broadband HSPA+ Slider Model: E182E.

When you plug in the adaper the driver automatically installs.

Huawei .... I used it . It needed a Driver for me , and I had to install it .

It was the XP - Vista transition period, and the driver was installed in XP easily . But when I shifted to vista, I thought that I have installed the driver, but actually it was not installed . So I failed to connet internet .

If your story matches to me, I can tell you what I done then . I placed the driver disk in the DVD drive, right clicked on my computer, selected manage, and on the computer management window, I selected device manager . On the device list, I right clicked on usb modem, and selected update ... browsed to the destination properly . Thus I installed the software , and after that, Huawei worked superb .

But it is about one and half year I dont use that ... so dont know prpoerly what to do with the latest ones . If it is with a driver, you may try this way .

I am in my parents at the moment and connected via the wireless using the netbook and have no problems

Please post in detail ... the procedure you followed . So that it would be helpful for anyony in future .

Sorry I think my post may have been taking up wrong. The netbook is working fine with wireless internet but still have the same problems trying to connect via the USB mobile broadband.

Sorry for the misinterpretation . Do you have a driver disk for the modem , have you tried that option (in the shot ) with the driver placed in DVD drive ?

Nope there was no disk with the adapter

p.s. I don't have the problem shown in your screen
