Everytime i unplug my external hdd i get blue screen

i have a weston digital 1tb external hdd and everytime i unplug it whistle my computer is on i get a blue screen :s

Are you "ejecting" it before unplugging it.

even when ejected i still get blue screen

You could try checking write caching:

Plug in your drive and then look into the following:


My Computer > Manage > Device Manager
Disk Drives > [My USB device name] > Properties
If you then select the "Policies" tab, you get two options: "Optimize for quick removal", and "Optimize for performance".


If you have "Optimize for performance" selected, you might get a blue-screen when removing the device.

ive got to the properties but there is no policies tab

on my external usb i had to go to the hardware tab in the properties window, select the drive from the list and click the properties button to get to the setting.

That's the properties if you go to:

my computer > "Your WD drive" > properties.



You should have done this:

1) My Computer > Manage > Device Manager > Disk Drives > "Your WD drive" > Properties

or

2) as stated above you can also choose the "hardware" tab from where you were.

I'm not really sure what else to suggest, I don't suffer from this issue with any of my USB devices. You might want to consider doing a repair on your Windows install.
