Here's some info on it. I have a Dell XPS 430 though so I don't know if there is a lot I can do.

Your DDR3 is in Dual channel and you have 4x2GB RAM cards, with Dell BIOS there's nothing you can change.

If you have 2 RAM cards you can change the slots, if they're not in the right slots it's possible to be in single channel mode.

You've got the standard Dell RAM, same as my Dell, as long as its running good your fine.

Yeah I'm not too worried about it. Everything seems to run fast enough for me. I've just been curious as to why its slower since its DDR3.

What speeds does the ram in your Dell run at?

I have 6GB DDR2 and it runs at about 6300 MB/s.

Only way to increase performance is to buy better RAM, and with OEM BIOS it will either run or it won't. You can't change any of the RAM settings, so it's best to be happy with what you have.

My Dell desktop is running great at that RAM speed and I'm content to leave it like it is.

That score for 4GB DDR2 800 is..., let's just say high.

Did you OC the RAM? (obviously, but have to ask)

If you did, to get that kind of performance it's gotta be cranked way up, I would be careful you don't fry it.

This is running at 1600, which I had to OC the processor a bit to get to, even though it's the RAMs rated speed.

No, that's enough info for now.

Sorry to tell you that your specs should be getting near or over 20,000 MB/s

Check you motherboard manual and make sure your RAM is in the recommended slots.

Then use a program like CPUZ to check if your Timings and Voltages are set correctly.

My bad guys. The last post was after an OC related shutdown, so the stats were completely wrong.

Here we go: i5-750 OC'd to 3.36 to get to my RAMs rated speed of 1600.

Yeah, 160, but I'm set on standard instead of turbo. Still relatively new to OC'ing and don't want to mess up my CPU or RAM until I have enough saved up to upgrade to an i7. Blew out a video card OC'ing last year, so I'm going with baby steps these days. lol

The i5 750 will run great even at 24x160MHz = 3.84GHz which is max turbo. It idles at 9x 160MHz = 1.44GHz, which is a great power savings. You'll find you usually run at 21 x 160MHz = 3.36GHz, which is what you get all the time now. Just FYI. I run turbo and all power savings. It runs great, spools up when needed, and idles very low power.

Have a look at this, it's based on ASUS MB, like mine, but your Gigabyte will be very similar.

Running the same settings, see above :p

With Turbo, EIST, and power saving settings.

Runs very easy and cool, fires up to 3.84 Ghz for single core and 3.36 GHz quad core when needed.

Thanks man. My board maxes out at 21X, but I've had pretty good stable settings up to 180x21, so I'm gonna keep pushing a bit. I've always turned EIST turned off, because that's what OC'ing sites recommend, but it may be a better idea to keep it on, especially if I go higher with the OC.

I've seen EIST recommended to be off, and then a few pretty convincing arguments from some seemingly knowledgeable OC'ers that you should use it.

Makes sense to me, why have your system running at 3.36GHz for surfing the web?

I think because it's fairly new and different, some people don't want to accept it.

Same with Turbo, it's nice to have when you need it but, if your OC is set high the Turbo will bring it too high depending on your cooling. So at some point you may need to turn it off.

Turbo will go to 21X with four cores but, will go to 24X on a single core app.

Speedstep...still not sure what to think about that. As of now, I think it's a good idea for smartphones, tablets and netbook/laptops, but not for desktops. With 2.3 TB of storage and 8GB of RAM, I don't see speedstep helping much. For the most part, all it's going to do is hinder performance when coming out of sleep, which is usually when I need my desktop to react quickly.

As for Turbo, I always set my CPU about 5% higher than I think it should be, and then see how my system reacts, hence the shutdown earlier. That's why I won't use it, most of the time.

Welcome to Seven Forums MiZeRy,

This might be good or might be not so good, depends on your system specs.
CPU, motherboard, RAM etc.

With a little info someone can give an opinion or recommendation.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

CPU: Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core

RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth X58

HDD: 2x Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10000 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s and Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

anything else needed?

No, that's enough info for now.

Sorry to tell you that your specs should be getting near or over 20,000 MB/s

Check you motherboard manual and make sure your RAM is in the recommended slots.

Then use a program like CPUZ to check if your Timings and Voltages are set correctly.

How would i know if they are set correctly? and how and where do i need to change them. sorry for the noob questions. i'm new to tweaking my system.

I run winsat after tweak my pc while ago and now re-run again and I find this something not right with score ??? pix below.

Any idea ?

dg

That score for 4GB DDR2 800 is..., let's just say high.

Did you OC the RAM? (obviously, but have to ask)

If you did, to get that kind of performance it's gotta be cranked way up, I would be careful you don't fry it.

No, That is 4GB DDR 3 1866.
