Homegroup Not Showing Up

I have two laptops running the Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000). I have a Homegroup set up and can see laptop 1 from laptop 2, but I can't see laptop 2 from laptop 1. I've tried comparing the setups, but they're basically identical. Any ideas of something I might have missed?

This seems to be happening in the RC as well. I'm running the Kaspersky Beta AV, would that be causing it? What ports/programs do I need to open up in the firewall to get HomeGroup running?

Kapersky should know what ports to open in the firewall for homegroup. Unfortunately I don't off the top of my head. Their version is supposedly being beta'ed specifically for Windows 7 compatibility.

One thing to check, make sure the Homegroup services are running. There's a listener service and a provider service. Make sure both are running on both PC's. I think they are set to Manual by default. Did you touch any services before enabling homegroup? Try flipping them both to auto on both PC's and see if that helps after reboot.

What do you mean by "can see" / "cant see"? how are you trying to "see" them? and what exactly, shares? Have you setup any HG shared libraries on laptop 1 ? what about when you go to network / sharing center and click on "see full map", do you see both laptops there? network discovery turned on for laptop 1?

I tried switching both services to Automatic with no success.

Basically with one laptop I can see the shared files in windows explorer under the HomeGroup collection of laptop 2(its in the left pane with My Computer, Libraries, etc). On laptop 2 however, there isn't anything under HomeGroup, thus I can't "see" any of the shared files of laptop 1. When I go to network & sharing center and click "see full map" it says that "Windows cannot creat a network map for the selected type of network connection". Very odd. I hope MS works these kinks out as HG doesn't seem to be ready for prime time yet.

both adapters using the same gateway? dns? Double check IPv4. You did JOIN the homegroup on laptop 1 that laptop 2 created, correct? just checking since the network map throws a curve. Have IPv6 disabled on any machine?

Do both machines have passwords on the accounts? Are you allowing Homegroup to manage or using user accounts and passwords option?

again, is network discovery turned on? printer and file sharing turned on? Double checked the folder/library sharing setting... whom its shared to specifically... eg; Homegroup or specified user etc ?

Yes, both adapters are using the same router (same gateway, dns, etc). Laptop 2 did join laptop 1's HG and IPv6 is enabled on both machines. Both laptops do have passwords, but HG is set to manage the sharing. Both network discovery & printer/file sharing are turned on in both laptops. The folders are not shared to a specific user (checked through right clicking on the folder and selecting properties) but all four libraries are set for sharing through the HG menu.

This one is really bothering me, I've searched on this since I installed the RC and cannot understand why laptop 1 can see the shares of laptop 2 but not the other way around, especially when both configurations are basically identical.

You do have "Home" selected as the network type too right? You have obviously tried removing both and adding them both back right?
