Agree that the problems are not caused by the user. It would appear to be faulty updates that were released. As for the average user fixing their systems - they probably can't.

All I can say is that a complete removal of Windows Updates followed by a fresh install of Windows Updates fixes it every time (for me)

I've had problems several times during the last year or so where even rolling back to a system image backup didn't fix things.

Yea I agree sometimes the system can get off
My update history was wild mostly successful but way too many MSE sludge updates cluttering up the history and it isn't installed anymore so I reset it finally.

I believe long term wise it was the best thing to do these workaround methods are just short term band-aids it seems :/

I believe that we all know that all the Windows 7 computer didn't go bad at the same time and have Update problems.
Yes we see some that are still trying to get SP-1 so they can get the free W-10. I think we know why that is in many cases.

My last Windows 7 updates Searching took about 20 to 30 min. to the best of my memory.
Installing was a breeze. Those are very good time compared to what they were. I got lucky and found a Microsoft Server.

I do believe that location of the computers in the world at times will have an effect of Search time.

There are so many possibilities but most of them have one thing in common. Not being able to Search and find a Microsoft Server that is available for Windows 7 Updates.

** Somebody tell me other than Microsoft, who has control of Microsoft Servers and what they will be used for?
** Someone tell me other than Microsoft who controls how many Servers and bandwidth is use for W-10 and how much/many is use for Windows 7 Updates.

Their is nothing wrong with my system. Everything works great on my systems except Searching for Windows 7 Updates.

Not sure if mbam is having issues with the new M$ torrent servers or not

I find it odd that my 7 x86 has no problems (knock on wood) with the updates, but both my 7 64 OS's have very long wait times and nothing but problems when it comes to updating.

I'm trying to update another W7 VM.
It's been running since lunchtime (it's now 2:30 AM).

The only install I had issues with was a 32 bit
Mostly I believe with using a upgrade key instead of full retail
Reloading Vista and using the upgrade disk and upgrade key seems to have solved that.

The Acer that just popped up with an issue well I did when KB3112343 came out hide it for a while
I believe that finally caught up to it this month but I did not really give it enough time to see if it would of normally find updates shortly after startup as the other 2 did this month so who knows it may have found them on it's own eventually

Acer needed some house cleaning anyway.
See what happens next month the update system has turned into quite the adventure

I've had issues with Windows Update running in both 64-Bit and 32-Bit VM's so it can affect both unfortunately.

We have been having problems with WU on a lot of machines at work. We are all Domain users and our Admin is judicious about which updates he permits. (All of the Important ones, some of the Recommended, very few Optional.) We still get calls all the time about "WU is taking forever...".

One thing we've found is that, for many users, if you cancel the search for updates and try it again it goes smoothly the second time around.

I have also found that if I stop the search in Task Manager and then do another Windows 7 Search thing speed up most of the time.
I believe what is happening, is that the new search finds another path to a available Microsoft Server.

Off The Wall

I know this is off the wall but I some times ponder. Are all the updates necessary? I haven't been having any major problems. A solution I have considered is stop up dating entirely.

Indeed, I have stopped updating, as it appears next to impossible to do it these days. If I go online with W7, it's to a specific place I trust, like a music company I want to download from. Everything else I'm on Ubuntu. My W7 install is mainly storage at this point.

Your solution would be okay because I rarely see an update to address a structural problem with win7; But, there are usually a half dozen every month that address remote-code execution if your machine would be visited by an attacker so you would be leaving your machine open to a possible attack if you visited a web site that harbors such activity.
Somehow that seems incongruous; How can a an operating system or parts of an operating system work okay, but is riddled with security flaws?!?

Has anyone noticed that updating is much faster lately? I hear it has to do with KB3153199 | google search I just had my copy installed this Tuesday May10th and my updates were finished like greased lighting.
My fourteen updates took less than 15minutes and that includes the restart. I'm hopin' it keeps up for next month, knock on wood..

I was thinking exactly the same thing, that the updates were suddenly coming a lot quicker in my VM's.... That was until the last few days and they've become painfully slow again. One of them was still stuck on searching after 3 hours, so don't get too comfortable. :roflmao:
