I recently got a new laptop, Acer Aspire v3-771g, and clean installed windows 7 home premium 64bit on it. While downloading other programs/video games, they all suddenly stopped, with a download speed of 0kbps. The strange thing is that I feel there is something stopping it because while torrenting, the torrent will download for a few seconds then says "stopped", and if I right-click it and click start it downloads fine. Another thing is that it doesn't happen right at boot, I can download fine for about an hour or so after a restart, then I receive this problem.

Lastly, it is possible there is a virus because I surfed the web and downloaded items while I didn't have any antivirus software but I did two scans so far, one on MSE and the other on a licensed version of McAfee, with the result being there is no issue. Is there another free AV that someone could recommend me trying?

If you were downloading torrents then yes it's possible.

Have you tried scanning with MBAM?

Installing the latest drivers for your Acer Aspire v3-771g might also help.
