Hope somebody can help.

I'm trying to fix a laptop for a friend. It fell off a surface and took a knock, then has refused to start since. Other issue is that the Hard Drive wasn't in securely and slips out occasionally and probably did due to the knock (I should point out that I would never let this happen if I had known, lol)

Initially, she told me it was hanging around at the login screen with none of the profiles showing. Since I've been looking at it, it has stayed at the Windows loading screen for a while then had a BSOD and rebooted.

BSOD error is;
Unmountable Boot Volume

0x000000ed
(0xfffffa8007f79940, 0xffffffffc0000185)

Going to the repair tools gives me a black screen that just hangs, selecting Safe Mode gives the same BSOD.

I attached the HD to a working laptop to try to check the disk for errors. It seems that the Windows partition needs reformatting. However, having attached the HD from my working laptop, I get the same BSOD error.

I've tried resetting the BIOS to defaults, starting it with only one DIMM attached at a time, taken it apart and reseated the processor but nothing has improved it.

I've accepted that it is likely to need a replacement part but not 100% on whether it needs a new motherboard or processor.

I can sort the issue the the HD and recover the files and I'm pretty sure it isn't the RAM unless they have both died due to the hit.

If somebody could let me know if there are any scans or processes I can run to repair this, or just confirm what I need to replace, I will be in your debt. Thanks.

Not to worry. I was able to boot from disc and reinstall windows. Seems to have fixed everything.
