Any suggestions? I have burned and used all the iso files for ultimate 7 x64 and keep getting the incompatible message. Even when I attempt to do a repair with my original media, it is rejected as incompatible. Every once in a while it will give the impression of making a repair and then the 0x800700b7 error message appears and I am back the square one. I have the SP1 applied.
Thanks for any help you can give. By the way, I have been through just about all the tutorials and tried almost everything I see there. I must be missing something.

Hi,
· How are you trying to do a System Restore, through Windows Recovery console?
· Are you able to boot into Safe mode?
· Do you remember making any changes to the system?
If you are able to boot into safe mode then I would suggest you follow method
Method
Follow the steps mentioned below to perform a clean boot.
1. Click Start, typemsconfig.exe in the Start Search box and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
2. On theGeneral tab, click Selective Startup and then click to clear theLoad startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
3. On theServices tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box and then clickDisable all
Note: Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
1. Click start, typemsconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then pressENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. On theGeneral tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
3. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart

Thanks, Archer. Yes, I was going through the Win Recovery console. Sometimes i am able to boot to safe mode and sometimes to the command prompt. No changes to the system. I was attempting to remove that FBI scam virus when something went buggy. I will get to the cmd prompt and give it a try (what you suggest below) WDale

Archer, my last boot attempt this morning (MDST) has resulted in the Start-up Repair console. It will most likely result in failure again and then I will be at the cmd prompt

from the COMMAND PROMPT of Recovery Console (if possible) or a Windows 7 disk
C:
(Hit Enter)

SFC /scannow
Hit Enter

and after that runs

chkdsk /f /r
Hit Enter

( Spaces between C and / k and / and f and / )

Retry Startup Repair after Chkdsk.
If needed after those you can retry System Restore from the Recovery or Windows 7 disk.

Cannot get past the classpnp.sys hang up during the safe mode boot

This Classpnp.sys is the driver for SCSI devices, due to the Windows cannot be booted, this problem may occur in scenarios as following:

· The registry is corrupted.
· A System file is missing or damaged.
· A device driver file is missing or damaged.

In this case, you need to do a Startup Repair and System Restore from DVD to fix this issue.

Attempted the system restore from my original media and from an iso. They came back as "incompatible . . . " As did my original recovery disk.
