For starters this is my first post, so hello. I'm glad to see there's such a large Windows 7 forum. I've been enjoying everything so far.

I have an

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
CPU: Intel I7 920
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1600 RAM
GFX: ATI 4890

After a few days of up time I notice a bit of lag, when I look at my processes Explorer.exe is running 100+ times.

There's only 6 applications (including background) running + 5 gadgets. A few gadgets are system monitors and the RAM load is at 5GB (38%) and one of the cores is just sitting at ~90.

Any ideas on what could be causing this. It's good after a restart but after a while it starts back up.

Thanks in advance for the help.

AVG Free.

I just ran Malwarebytes and found 'zbot' trojan... not good but I don't think that was the culprit.

I love MSE. It is my personal favorite, and hasn't let a virus through yet. Very fast as well, barely influences my boot times.

Good. Refresh my memory, what did you do to fix it?

I have used AVG 9, and it developed a memory leak, so that's when I switched to MSE (and got hooked).

The problem hasn't come up again even after almost 3 days of uptime.

I kept searching and couldn't find anything like this. If it happens again I'll run hijack this and see if I can figure it out.

In order to fix it I just restarted my computer. I believe that last times it happened I was shift+deleting large folders from my 1.5TB Seagate. The drive freezes and lags a lot so Idk if that would have caused any explorer errors but regardless it hasn't happened since.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I'm definitely going to stick around on the boards. :)
