Solved 1st Build - Major help needed

Try wiping that HD with Diskpart Clean Command to clear the boot code.

Reformat it Logical to avoid any chance boot files can be derailed to it if it must remain in DISK0 position which is sometimes unavoidable and due to how the BIOS reads the drives before the OS does: Partition / Extended : Logical Drives - Windows 7 Forums.

If that doesn't affect it then see if you can change its port.

Not all BIOS give a HD priority but if so it is likely listed under Storage. What is listed there now and is there a way to reorder them? You may have to dig to find the setting.

My head is telling me to go bed and I'm going to listen but...

I 'clean' the drive but did not format. Still tries to boot to the spinner but now instead of a small cursor in the top left corner I get the 'no boot device' dance.

Under storage
Sata 3_1 ssd
3_2 3tb hd
3_3 nada
3_4 3tb hd #2
3_5 1tb (the one that's being booted too)

So...this is strange and it's how I remember hooking up the drives. Seems like Disk 0 should really be 3_1 and not 3_5.

One more thing, at the BIOS quick boot all the drives are as such
AHCI - SSD (or HD) *except* for the 1tb that's being reverted to and that one says
SATA - 1tb drive (but gives the real code for the drive).

That was a reply to cheesed00d. I should have quoted him. He thought that CMOS battery might be bad or not connected.

Yes if it was the cmos battery most likely your date and time and all other non default setting would change to default settings.....likely not the battery.

We'd need to see screenshots of ALL of your BIOS choices under storage drives to see if we can spot where to set SSD as priority HD. In past cases where no such setting was found we've been able to find it.

In BIOS Boot priority are you able to expand HD listings, or see the SSD at all to select it? We need to see this listings expanded fully if not.

Could you please tell us how these 4 disks in your screenshot are formatted - MBR or GPT?
Disk 0 = GPT
Disk 1 = ?
Disk 2 = ?
Disk 3 = ?

Been quite a while but I was rooting around in the BIOS because of a USB 3 issue I"m having http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/326127-usb-3-failing-asrock-a75-pro4-m.html
and I got the BIOS to boot to the SSD. I'm not quite sure why I didn't figure this out earlier....but in this BIOS you have to have select the drive you want to boot to and then in a separate step put it in the boot order. live and learn.

Yes that happens with some BIOSes, others will automatically go to the drive with the bootrec on it.

I almost don't even want to reply.....but the f'r reverted back to normal behavior and wouldn't boot w/o me pointing it to the SSD.

I'll follow the steps laid out above and post snaps of BIOS and disk mgr etc.... *sigh*

Make sure you Save the setting before exiting BIOS.

I think you mentioned this, but first you have to set the Hard Drive priority in case there is more than one. Then the boot priority.
1.CD Drive
2.USB Device
3.Hard drive
Or similar.

I just noticed this. I have several drives in the BIOS.
1, SSD
2, 2 3tb Seagates
3, 1 1tb Seagate.

I've never noticed this before but they read like this in BIOS/Storage Config
SATA: 1tb (actually gives the model but I'm not typing that out.....)
AHCI: P0: SSD
AHCI: P1: 3tb
AHCI: P3: 3tb

So! Why isn't the 1tb in AHCI mode???? It is in SATA port 3_5 which by my observation should be P5? ny ideas?

I just noticed something else. Under Storage Config is HD SMART
Looks like this:
SATA3
3_1 - SSD
3_2 3tb
3_3 not detected (correct, it's empty)
3_4 3tb
3_5 1tb (this is the drive that is SATA and not AHCI)
3_1 not detected! Disregard ... this is actually E3_1 because it is the esata port.

I am on ASRock forum trying to get an issue w/USB 3 not working correctly. I was advised to disable Combined IDE so I did...now the SATA 1tb on 3_5 is not an option to boot from.

Can you take a screenshot of your BIOS with those items shown? In UEFI, it's usually pressing a "F" key to do it. Slap in a USB stick before booting into BIOS though.
