1TB External HDD turned RAW ! Please help

Hello Experts!
My 1 TB external WD HDD has suddenly turned RAW. It has lots of precious data - pictures, movies and documents. Movies are not so important, but I do want my pictures & documents back..

I tried EaseUS, it takes so long and recover option does not start after clicking. Ran Chkdsk few days back, it showed some bad blocks. I have downloaded TestDisk and Mini Partition Tool also, but don't know how to proceed.

I also have an empty 1 TB new HDD, if there is a way to copy RAW HDD into this & restore data? The new HDD is also WD and it comes in NTFS format. Now I tried using Mini Tool Partition to Copy partition, however it asks for 'Unallocated' target drive Stuck...! Also, even if copy was done into new HDD (which should be RAW??), how would I recover data from there?


Please help me recover photos and documents. If I get movies also, I will be on 7th heaven

Welcome to the forum. Raw means it's lost the partition table you need specific partition recovery software don't use file recovery all files come back when partition is recovered. There's lots of free software if one doesn't work try another

Hi halo13n,

1. Stop trying anything on your own. Safely remove your 1TB My Passport external HDD and keep it aside for now till you are ready to tackle the problem.

2. You have a Lenovo Laptop running Windows 10. 32bit??? 64 Bit??????. Be specific.

3. If you had downloaded Minitool Partition Wizard Free Edition v 10/10.1/10.2 , no, that won't do. It is not free for Partition Recovery. Uninstall it.

4. Download and install v 9.1 from here MiniTool Partition Wizard Free 10.2.1 Download for Windows / Old Versions / FileHorse.com



5. Plug in only your faulty drive now ( Please remove any other external HDD/s, Pen drives.) Run v 9.1 and post a screenshot showing your drives - the first screen that appears as soon as you launch Partition Wizard. After taking the screenshot, exit PW . Safely remove your faulty drive and keep it aside. Do not leave it plugged in and running.
