Question in respond to a question... various reasons ,one may want to upgrade to a better version with in the 30 day trail period. two insure system is operating without any problems.... that's why MS allows the grace period. I ask a simple Q now have to explain all the if and but's . If you don't have the answer don't reply!

You are not the first one that asks a bit suspicious question, thus giving right to every member first to try to find out if your issue is valid and if you are using a legal, licensed version of Windows. Asking some harmless, polite questions is basically the only way to do this.

Owner, admins and mods on Seven Forums are working very hard to keep it legal. I hope you can understand and accept that. There's no room for piracy here, that's one of the things that separate us from many other Win7 based forums.

But, as you wish. I'm not going to answer with a question. I'm just saying that I am not going to answer before I know more. But don't worry, let time go by, and someone will answer you. There are always those who don't mind, at least until they are banned.

There are random "register soon" balloons up until 30 days. Once 30 days have passed, your desktop will be black and you will see a message that Windows is not genuine. However, you can extend the activation for up to a total of 120 days - all perfectly legal. There are guides on the 'net, if you don't know how to do it.

Honestly, I have no idea why people don't want to answer when a nag will appear.

Kegobeer, my reason is is simple: If you have a valid, legal Windows license, you have no reason to play "the grace game".

Also in this case, the OP's attitude in his response to Joel's simple and valid question was an additional reason.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. The OP didn't ask how to circumvent activation, the OP asked when notifications start appearing. That is not classified information.

Regarding not playing "the grace game": I have a Technet subscription. I routinely install Windows operating systems and don't bother to activate until 30 days pass. I test drivers, hardware configurations, etc. I have tons of valid, legal keys - do I have a reason to play the grace game?

The OP asked a question, only to be asked questions not at all related to the original question, calling into question the OP's intentions (basically calling the guy a thief). I'd probably respond in a similar way.

I'm sorry but if you read your post again you have come to a conclusion an answer to my question could lead me to do something legal..I hope you don't live in Arizona.

Why didn't you just run it for 30 days without activating? It'll throw the warning, and you'd know when, when it comes... There's no risk involved... I still wonder though...

The wife question is really out of topic, we all know that you have a copy of Windows, and you know the grace period, yet you asked when the warnings will start to pop up... It's going to pop up sooner or later, why not just punch the code in...? It's not like no one knows about the grace period, or no one knows that there's a "rearm" method to increase the grace period...

Why wait? Why?

I'm not accusing you of anything, but there's a lot who asked about these kind of questions to "prepare" them selves in time to search for activation circumvention tools... I hope you're not one of them...

hi Brian.. let me assure you i have a legal copy of Windows 7 ( two in fact) purchased from Future Shop on the 2nd day of the official release. Any person being that foolish to put an illegal OS on a computer is just plan stupid and I'm not stupid.

I did not see the notices you mentioned as I did not sit with the computer after inputing the opening Q. i have a thousand other things going at this time and it's possible the unit may have taken some water from a window above my desk... I'm on another unit.

KEGOBEER did not mention the notice at start up in his earlier reply to me. perhaps he did, Ill watch for it.

I felt there are two steps Registration and Activation, I'm not sure... The unit is running. I followed the steps outlined on this site for upgrading etc.

I've spent far to much time on this computer and this simple Q and I must get back to more important tasks. Will i entry the keys ? franking at this point in time i really don't know . All going well it will be done before the 30 days. perhaps on a new unit. i really have to go as my little wife needs some help. Thanks for the info.

Go to control panel -> system

At the bottom of the page it will tell you how many days until activation.
