32 bit vs 64 bit Comparison

Good to know this. I, personally, never have strange issues with WEI, but it´s good to know that it´s not 100% reliable.

It isn't a matter of being reliable...it's a matter of usefulness. If the scores mean nothing, and nothing utilizes those scores, and you can easily get a 9.9 in all categories if you want, what's the point? I run it once to make sure AERO is enabled, if my drivers don't do it for me, and then that's it. I couldn't tell you the scores of any of my 3 systems, and never had a need to care.

I'm always baffled by the number of threads where people ask what others score, or ask others to comment on their scores.

You need at least 2 Gbs of RAM to use x64 Windows, so I would recommend you stick with x32.

Hello francis and welcome to Seven Forums.

This Microsoft article will tell you the system requirements to run Windows 7. It also has a link (right side) to the Windows Upgrade Advisor. It can scan your computer and tell you whether or not your machine meets the recommended specs.

Keep in mind that most, if not all of the specs are the minimum requirements. Even if your machine meets those requirements you may not get maximum performance from Windows 7. Hope this helps.

Add the 1GB of ram but stay with 32 bit Win 7. You will not see any performance change switching to 64 bit with your computer. Make it a dual core and 4GB or ram and then maybe 64 bit would help.

Now if you want to do this just to see if you can and how it will run then go for it. You have nothing to lose since you will have to do a Clean Install as you can't upgrade from 32 to 64. If you don't like it, clean install again to get back to 32 bit.

Consider the WEI useless. I've been able to get different scores by simply manually refreshing. You can also edit a file to get whatever scores you want, so the WEI should be completely ignored.

I have been seeing the WEI change once after a GPU driver upgrade. Not the final score, though, just the GPU related score.

It is for "bragging rights" if one does the true WEI score without REG hacks. Mostly I find it useful for myself to note if a tweak or hardware changs makes a difference.
Soon MS will change the standards to keep up with technology and the top score may be 12.9. Then all those with the high 7 scores will

I think the question here really is, "is the extra RAM you need worth the trouble of re-installing Windows?"

Not JUST for the memory, no. But, the next time you do a clean install, might as well go x64. Unless, of course, you plan to add more memory in the near future, given how cheap it is right now.

Sorry but I don't know what Freddy is using - set up etc but as a novice I rest my laptop to 64but on 4GB and it made a noticeable difference.


My new build i5 2500 I originally has 4GB then thought what the hell so stuck in another 8GB and now it travels at StarTrek warp speed lol!! So I'm wondering why Freddy doesn't reset to 64bit cos you would still have the IE in32bit for Youtube etc ???? (you can back compat with 64bit can't you?)

Or have I got it a bit a about f??

Oh, by the way. I have 2 sticks Kingston DDR2 4096 MBytes Dual (2 sticks x2GB in each) will it be possible to buy 2 more of those, put them in the yellow sockets, and then have 8GB without problems? Will it optimize?
