This is a long shot!

I had completed almost all of Dragon Age.....everything but the final set of battles really....on my last PC when the motherboard died in a blaze of glory(rest in peace!). It was a 32 bit XP installation.

My new computer is a massive upgrade adn is running Win 7 64 bit.

What is the chance of installing the harddrive from my old PC into this new PC and being able to access the old save files? Could I actually do this? Could I actually fire up the old DA installation in situ so to speak.....or maybe reinstall DA onto the new harddrive and somhow pull the old save over?

This is probably a pipe dream but I have to ask!

Maybe, some games I know can just be moved around and will work but most will not. You will probably be able to retrieve the saved games but you will have to install the game on your new Windows 7 install.

back up your stuff before doing this your DAO save is located in MyDocuments/Bioware when you successfully installed Windows 7 go to the same MyDocuments and Paste the Bioware from there although i am not 100% sure about this but to make sure use your DAO same version before

Goodluck~

re: Copying to a USB is out of the question..the old PC is completely dead...will not boot. I will have to physically remove the harddrive and install it in my new PC. I just wasn't sure if I would need to install DA or if I could try and run it from the transplanted HD.....especially considering the different operating system(32bit XP to 64 bit win7).

you probably 2 options not to lose or to save your files

1.installing your HDD to other computer as 2nd HDD and get your save file

installing a new OS to your new computer using your HDD? you well lose all data which is stored in Drive C: (were casually most common OS is installed) or your MyDocuments is located which DAO save file is stored

2.you can still save your files in that particular driver just avoid were your MyDocuments is located try installing it to other driver like drive D: or E: etc..

however this is goes the same all the data on that driver is going to be deleted

still option #1 is my best option for you is use other working computer with your HDD to access your files
