My hardware is optimized for 64bit and I have 4 Gigs of RAM so 64bit all the way, IMO there is no need for 32bit these days, unless your computer doesn't support 64bit.

On my two main comps I'm getting x64 (even though they only have 2 gigs of RAM, I want to try x64), but my junk comp doesn't have a 64-bit CPU so I have to go x86.

I'd reconsider... I've noticed that the 64-bit somehow uses 7% more memory than the 32-bit without any app running. I have 3GB memory atm so it's not that bad, but I don't know what will happen when I run all sorts of 64-bit software.

I guess some feedback from other users would be good in this case. I don't want to be responsible for preventing you from downloading a potentially great OS
It's just that in my case it used 7% more memory without any apps running. I don't know about others

My Vista (for example) X64 from X32 actually used less memory in my case, and I know that (when I install) Windows 7 X64 it will be a great OS - can't wait!

My son has a new Dell Studio 15 with 4 GB RAM and if I can convince him to let me install x64 on his, I might give that a try. Heck, I might sweeten the deal and offer to put 8 GB in the laptop if he lets me put Win 7 on there.
He mainly plays games and does simple word processing and internet searching for schoolwork. He shouldn't have too many problems.

Well I am now using Windows 7 on my main everyday PC, although I do have a backup install of Vista just incase anything goes wrong. At the moment I am still using 32Bit version with no reall problems and happy with the performance. I am reluctant to go 64Bit on this machine as I was keen to get Win7 up and running so installed build 7000 before a 64Bit version available. I now have a lot of software installed and can't be arsed to start all over again. Speed is good and after going back to Vista for a day on here I really notice a big difference and would not go back.
I will be going 64Bit though but just not on this machine. Will be starting with my laptop that has the needed 4Gig of ram onboard.
64Bit will come on this machine probably in a couple of months when 1/ I can be bothered and spend the time to start over and 2/ When I am happy that I know I can do everything I need in 64Bit and as yet that is not the case.
I think I am always going to need multiple opperating systems though as there is always something you need to do in one op that you can't do in another, and I do like to play. lol

x86 is slowly going away.
Mobo's are already capable of supporting up to 32gigs of memory. There really is not much point to x86 unless your on a dated PC.
