32bit vs 64bit install.

No it does not require more ram instead x64 was designed to be able to use more ram per application.

32bit limit is 2gb (can go upto3gb) per application
with x64 bit you don't have this limit at all if your software are x64bit too, each application can use as much ram available right upto 128GB.

I tested a machine with 16gb running 4 graphics application & each of them was able to use 3-4gb of ram.

Installing on your laptop should be fine with3gb ram at least you will be able to experience the speed of windows 7 which is quite in news.

kl, i'm having this problem with my laptop - which i was hoping a fresh win7 install could fix.
my wireless keeps cutting out when i've been using the net on it for certain periods of time - the worst thing is that msn works perfectly! (so there's definitely a connection there (taskbar says it's connected to wireless fine too with no errors) - however firefox refuses to work (as do most other programs that may need an internet connection) - then firefox hangs and it takes me half an hour just to log off so i can reboot only to find the same thing happening again
i upgraded the firmware/drivers for the wireless device - same thing, i thought vista sp2 with its 'wireless on laptops' improvements would solve this but it hasn't.

this is what happens with firefox..
it'll be working fine then i'll load up another page - it'll take ages - then when i refresh it or try to open another link it'll say 'stopped' on the bottom left (where it usually says done etc)
and then from then onwards i know it's 'cut out' - utorrent speeds will drop firefox won't load any pages but msn will still work indefinitely. (on the bottom right vista says i'm still connected to the internet) - at times ie will load up pages but even then it's on/off - so there's definitely a connection present
so if i close firefox and try to reopen it it won't let me - it'll say firefox is already open but not responding) - if i try to kill the process it won't let me - it just stays there anyway - (it basically hangs)
the worst thing is that because these programs are hanging i can't log off/restart quickly

because the os is trying to shut down those processes and it takes ages
so it says 'logging off...' for ages - and finally shuts down/restarts - i have to press (start--restart/shut down) quite a lot of times too - because pressing it once just doesn't do anything
and when i load it up again the cycle starts over

so does it sound like an os problem or the laptop itself? - i'm hoping maybe a fresh install of win7 might solve it - maybe it's a software clash or something
