This maybe asked a million times, but will win7 32bit run faster on a 2gb system vs running win7 64bit on same system ??

Minimum requirements for 64-bit version is 2gb so your at the lower end. 64-bit is much happier with 4gb though.

Given the age of your hardware, Id go with 32-bit.

With the prices of DDR2 these days, jam 8 in there. My setup is screamin at x64 + 8GB + SSD.

Windows 7 32 bit. It works nicely in 2 gigs. 64bit has a harder time with drivers, ram, and resources.

Unlikely - I've had zero issues, and you need more memory. Bioshock 2 recommends 3GB for the Steam release, and I suspect its optimised for 64-bit. Even for multitasking, 7 will swallow it and manage it properly.

Comparing both after a fresh install 32bit is noticeably faster on my machine ....

Most people proclaim that 64 bit is way faster...but I think once they put a stopwatch to it...they will find that it's not really any quicker for 99% of the applications they run and the things that they do. That's been my experience with identical boxes running 4GB of RAM. Obviously the apps that are 64-bit do show improvement...but for me...it seems more of my apps are still stuck in 32-bit.

For me, 4GB is the minimum for 64-bit. Any less and 32-bit is likely the better option as far as I am concerned.

Hmmm, Even with four gigs of memory, I have never ever used more than two gigabytes at one time. But four gigs would have definitely helped with superfetch and everything.
64 bit pros-
  • more security
  • faster disk
  • SLIGHTLY faster performance on good hardware
Cons-
  • More ram to load at startup=more bootup time
  • some graphics drivers do give a lower wei score
  • 16 bit applications

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on an HP Pavilion with 2 GB of RAM. It runs just fine, including all the games I play (granted they are older, need less processing power). I don't have any performance issues at all. My pc boots quickly, loads apps quickly, burns thru most SQL queries at a reasonable pace. I have a dual core AMD chip... Like I said, I have no problems with performance with only 2 GB's of RAM.

I am happy you have not had problems. Unlikely as you think it may be, others, myself included have not been as fortunate. The overwhelming number of BSOD's are 64 bit, the majority of driver issues are as well.

32 bit systems will be faster up to a certain extent of hardware configurations, from where 64 bit take a clear lead.

My 64 bit 3.4Ghz Core 2 duo install worked snappily with 2Gb, no difference noticed with 4Gb although I haven't installed Photoshop yet, that likes lots of memory. DDR2 has doubled in price in the last year (in the UK).
