59Hz

forcing brings issues.
for few games while actualy are games that try use 60hz anyway.

edit: 186.18 has't fixed this either.
really shame on few that think this aint a big deal.
its causing nothing but major issues for me over here.

I dont think that should result in problems to the monitor itself. But i do believe that can be problems with your eyes after a long time.

Still waiting for someone who can solve this.

Cheers.

well i sent an email to samsung and they said that the only way to solve this is with new monitor drivers but the guy that answered me said that they would only focus on new drivers when w7 was released...
So the same may apply to everyone with this problem

Windows 7 Hz fix

Hey all I had the exact same problem until today :D
My 20" Widescreen LCD's (ViewSonic) True resolution is 1680 by 1050; I have a GeForce 9800GTX+. In the nvidia control panel I set to true res, there were two options for the refresh rate (59 and 60Hz) when I chose 60Hz it just set it back to 59...This pissed me off so much as I would have to set my res to a lower level so that when I watched videos the image wouldn't freeze.

I just got the new nvidia 186.18 driver... I went to the control panel then under manage custom resolutions I set the true res, set it to 60Hz then went to advanced and under timing standards selected manual, set my desired refresh rate to 60.449 hit test and it worked. Now it says 1680 by 1050 at 60.45Hz (60Hz as reported by OS) And now under Change resolution it only show 60Hz and no stupid 59Hz!!!! My problem solved I hope it works for you guys too. Oh I also selected Force HD Resolutions under the manage custom resolutions too (don't know if that did anything towards it but I'm happy)

Please reply and tell me if it worked for you or not thnx

Hi mysticfabs, are you sure your monitor can handle refresh rates beyond 60hz? Because if not, you can damage it. If yes, well good, but in ATI control panel, its impossible to do that trick, even forcing to it. At least i´ve tryd and got no lucky :(

It continues to say 59hz, if i go to the monitor properties. And nothing makes it change it, not even new Catalyst´s (9.6 i think).

well... windows can state 59hz but it may be on 60hz if you force it... have you tested it ? if you have any game on your computer capable of turning vsync ON (and normaly you have more than 60 fps), turn vsync ON and see if your fps are limited at 60 or 59 : )
Its cause windows may be doing bad readings...

Of course i´ve tryed it, Far Cry 2 states 1680*1050@59hz, as long as other games too. Oh, and most of them have problems running for not being at a native resolution.

Monitor Properties, is stating the real present state of the display being used.

Well in the nvidia control panel I had the option of choosing 60Hz or 59Hz; It's when I tried to set it to 60 it auto reset it to 59Hz. My monitor can handle 75Hz in lower res so I'm sure I'm safe ^^; as for you question about "forcing" in ccc I'm not too sure, When I could only set it to 59Hz before I forced it woulds say 59Hz (60 as reported by OS) So I'm guessing it wouldn't say it's at 59Hz and actually be at 60Hz...

As I said I'm not really sure but I hope things work out for you ^^

if windows states 59 hz its 59 hz trust me.
and even if select 60 hz it go's back 59hz.
there games that pickup 60 hz fine but this brings the issue lot stuff messing up like media player crashing or taking real long to load a game cous its trying to force it by any means posible.

anyway i'm gessing there still no real fix ?

Of course there's a fix. And it's very real. Unfortunately I cannot spoon feed it to each comer as it involves research, development and testing for each and every display. First, dig around in the linux xfree86 forums for a modeline that works for your monitor that has a refresh rate greater than 60. I've seen quite a few 62 and 70 modelines that work. Then translate that modeline into Pheonix EDID Designer and finally create an INF with moninfo. Properly executed and using proper cabling (no adapters, no breaking pins off), it works every time.

Oh, and the VESA standard for 60Hz is 59.94 -- Google it. That's the root of the problem. In order to handle HD correctly and fix media center issues, 7 calculates refresh rates by the book. Since it's NOT 60 and only integers are supported, it really is 59.

Why closed? ATI users (at least like me) are still stuck to massive refresh rate problems, i had to uninstall all games and apps that malfunction with this non-native resolution, it was driving me crazy! And it still annoys me to drag windows and see the refresh artifacts everywhere.

Now, i hate to say this, but RTM is closer and closer and i can picture myself with a bought final build in my computer, and still having the problem. Now, and only now i hate vista because Windows 7 is guaranteed as a big step forward, but work and other stuff are forcing me to downgrade it.
