64bit Installation Problems - ripping hair out

I tried doing it with the newer two 2GB sticks and it blue screened. Does it matter which slots they go in by chance? There are 2 blue (DIMM 1 and 2) and 2 yellow (DIMM 3 and 4)...the original RAM was in the blue slots.

Nevermind, I've been mixing the RAM up into different slots and no combination seems to work, just the 2GB. Is the 64bit not able to run with more than 2GB of ram?

Doesn't sound like it Doc! I was suspicious from my first post.

Sheena, X64 Windows 7 is designed to use all memory provided! Unlike the older versions of Windows from XP to Vista OS 7 in 64 bit calls for all available memory!
I may be wrong but during the RC/RTM memory had to be specifically matched in both size and frequency! With the advent of higher bus speeds and DDRIII faster memeory. So Windows 7 is designed for these types of memories. You have 2 gigs of memory, if you are intent on using x64 bit I suggest you find more memory of the same type and size and install in your DIMM slots.

Your issue now is that you had a successful installation and Windows 7 was able to write the system profile without the additional ram and grfx card. I suspect that the additional memory sticks are different in origin and not matched to the original system profile and this is causing you issues.
I suggest the following:

1. Remove all memory
2. Remove the pci card
3. select a 2 gig memory stick, I would use the newer 2 gig stick
4. install the os from scratch, allow the installation to complete
5. reboot and allow the system to run post checks.
6. Once the system is up and running, shut her down
7. Install the newest 2 gig stick, reboot, if your system runs the post check and the os loads you now have 4 gigs of the newer memory.
8. DO NOT INSTALL THE OLD MEMORY STICK!!!!
9. Your memory sticks are mismatched, also review your psu rating because I suspect your unable to provide sufficient power to the card. But this another issue we can deal with later. Your priority is to rundown the bad memory stick.

Just for the record, Memtest86 can be run without an OS installed at all so you can check each stick individually to see if one of them is bad, just burn it to CD as it works best from CD and boot the disk and it'll automatically start checking the RAM, just do one stick at a time.

I would try each of the new ram sticks one at a time, see what happens. Perhaps just one is defective?
