Hello,

I tried to install 7048 X86 over my X86 7022 installation, all seemed to go well until the pc had to restart after reaching 62% of transferring files, programs and settings.

On restarting, I repeatedly got BSODs, stating a problem with inspect.sys.

Just a heads-up folks, maybe it was the torrent I downloaded (allegedly!) ;)

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

Hi there

The torrent downloads shouldn't of themselves cause any problems with build 7048. If it is a bootable ISO then it's not the original Microsoft version -- the true microsoft version installs by using the setup.exe file.

You CAN make a bootable version of course --extract the boot rec from build 7000 or 7022 and use something like Ultra ISO to create a bootable DVD.

You can easily check if your download is OK -- the total size is around 3.32GB . - Most nasty viruses that "allegedly" come from torrents are usually contained in things like music or pirate videos.

Messing around with Windows isn't worth it to most of these "people" since to infect a Windows install so that windows will actually boot before doing something nasty is quite tricky. If you "hack it wrong" Windows if it even starts will just BSOD.

If you DO use a torrent have a look at the remarks that come with the torrent -- beware of just 1 remark saying torrent is OK. A lot of remarks together with a decent amount of seeders is usually a good sign.

In your case I'd probably download again. Now the leak has been out for a while you should be able to get better download speeds.

I'd suggest either your download package had an error in it or while doing the upgrade you didn't have enough free disk space available.

Once you've got it working it DOES perform very nicely --certaily the X-64 bit version does --even get photoshop CS4 to fly on a small laptop -- it struggled with VISTA.

cheers
jimbo

Hello Jimbo,

I'm sure I *cough* downloaded the common version of the X86 torrent, the one linked to from various sites.
The download speed wasn't great, so I have now decided to try and download it again.
On placing the burned DVD in my drive, the autoplay options came up asking did I want to run setup.exe or open the folder, I chose the run setup option.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.

inspect.sys belongs to Comodo firewall. Additionally, there is more information here:
Windows Filtering Platform Traffic Inspection Sample

Thanks Jacee,

I uninstalled Comodo Firewall, and then had no problem installing 7048.
I did, however, have to turn off Network Firewall before I could install Comodo and have it run satisfactorarily afterwards.

Very Best Wishes,
Bob.
