I ran Microsoft Fix It, that didnt help. I renamed the old folder(i forgot what it was called, i followed directions on how to do it from another post, it was a pretty standard procedure to try and fix it) that didnt help.

It is for updates:

Security Update for .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2518869)
Download size: 14.2 MB

and

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2572077)
Download size: 11.0 MB

They are able to download but when i try to install them i get the error prompt saying they were not able to be installed. Thanks for any help.

Microsoft Games for Windows Marketplace

Windows updater found 7 more updates that it wasnt finding before (some were even important system updates) Microsoft Games were installed. Unfortunatly it still didn't install the 2 Security updates mentioned in my original post, but the other 7 new updates were installed fine.

Seriously.... w t f

Not updating net framework leaves you buggy. and may leave security holes. Might want to fix it instead of passing on it.

Agreed - one of the major problems is that a later more critical update may not install, because it requires the earlier one that you ignore.

Those two updates were issued last year. One in July and one in October. Check to see if they're listed in your history as "Successful" or really missing. They might have been installed already.

Even if they were 'successfully' installed, the fact that WU is picking htem out means that something is awry with them - and they need to be installed properly.

I agree Noel but the question is a diagnostic query. Perhaps the OP deleted or "cleaned" entries from the winsxs folder to try and save space. :(

Tank - Run sfc /verifyonly from an elevated command prompt (Run as Administrator). Report back any messages you get.

ok i uninstalled/reinstalled .NET Framework 4 and updated, it still wont install those updates. I noticed something, both the updates are for ".NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based" , According to my control panel the only .NET framework i had installed was 4, and not 3.5.1 like the update specifies it is for... Should I also install .NET framework 3.5, so i would have .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and also 4? In my computer> system properties it says i have "Service pack 1" on this computer.

edit: i just ran that .net framework cleanup tool that was linked to in this site and that didnt work either. im totally out of options now. ive literally done EVERYTHING to fix this thing and im NOT reinstalling windows cus of this. Maybe i will call microsoft tech support tommorow

what are you talking about one at a time? I have/had only the .NET Framework 4 on this computer, no other versions. Do i need to install other versions of .NET Framework along with 4? To my knowledge just having 4 was good enough.

The .NET Framework versions are similar to the C++ versions in that you need them for software that was written for it. If you don't have .NET 3.5 installed, the updates won't apply. I'm not quite sure why WinUpdate pulled them down unless you've installed/uninstalled software that needed it. Hide the two updates if you don't have 3.5 installed.

Win 7 comes with .NET 3.5, .NET 3.0 and .NET2 already installed - .NET4.0 is merely an extension of functionality over the previous ones.

There must be leftover from your previous uninstall of .net Framework v4.0 in the "Programs & Features".

When you unistall it deletes most of it only, a part of previous security updates are left, therefore you'll have to dig them in the Tab " Show Installed updates" from "Programs & Features" panel.
