A few questions about my partitions.

Hi just wanting to know abit more about my partitions, I have an 8gb recovery partition, C drive 58gb partition and D drive 8gb partition.
DO i need the recovery partition and can i merge the D drive with nothing on it into my C drive? thanks in advance.

I had vista up until today so maybe its from there not sure.

A lot of the files in there have not been accessed for years by the looks of things even a few from 2005, which is funny cause this laptop was brought in 2007 lol

If you don't think you need the Vista recovery, you could delete it & the 8gb D and then merge them all into C with the partitioning sofware you have.

might do that, just googled that partition and it said
"It's normally a 'Hidden Partition' use extensively on laptops.
Instead of having Rescue and Restore discs the PQSERVICE partition holds all you need to get you back to the day your laptop was delivered."

so because i have the windows 7 disc i wont need a partition for recovery does that sound about right?

Doc's right. Presumably you don't have a license for 7, but are planning on buying a copy?

You already bought a Vista license with your machine.

Delete that partition and you'll never get Vista back. Unless there is some way of running recovery discs off from that partition - I have no idea what these oem's get up to - you would need to check the website to find out.

You might want to put Vista back - if you were to sell the lappy - and wanted to transfer 7 to your new machine - who knows what you might want to do in the future.

( In extremis - it should be possible to get hold of a Vista dvd - use the key off the side of the machine - you may need to ring the oem to activate- you would almost certainly need to get Vista drivers for your specific machine from the manufacturer website , before installing Vista.)

You might be better buying a bigger HD - cloning your existing one onto it.

Hey Reece,

Like SIW2 mentioned, having a Vista recovery option is a good idea.

Check the Acer site and see if they have a way to put the recovery partition onto a DVD. Then you'll have it if you sell the lappy or for any reason need the Vista back.
Also see if they will send you a Vista recovery DVD, some OEMs will at no charge.

You might want to get something on DVD.

I gave you a link to the Acer website on your thread about getting drivers.

Besides drivers, they should have some information on getting the Vista recovery DVD.

Just looked at the eRecovery file on the Acer site and it's only 15MB, so it's not the Vista recovery file.

They should send you the recovery DVD, I would hope.
