Hi there
have you thought about using those USB mobile connect systems that you can get either on contract or on a "pay as you go" basis.

The 3G speed is fine for average surfing - and even for your update it's probably far far better than a dialup.

If you get a "Pay as you go" one it won't cost you a lot and it's good as an "emergency backup" if your main Internet connection goes bonkers.

I think in the UK 3-com or somebody like that offer a good "Pay as you go" 3G data service.

These even work on desktops - but if you have a laptop find a Free Wi-Fi connection in a place such as a Hotel Lobby and complete your download and update there.

I couldn't face using a Dial up again - it would take a long time to download even something as small as a 5MB file.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi Jimbo actually that is what im using, but i live in the middle of nowhere so i dont get 3G signal, im stuck on GPRS which uses dialup speed,

i know what you mean about going back to dialup though, its horrible.... i really do sit here just thinking "i cant believe 10 years ago this was the norm"
